Isn't he CUTE?!

Visited my parents this weekend and they have a new baby, he's 5 days old today! He doesn't have a name yet, still working on finding just the right thing for him.
These guys have to be the most adorable creatures, and soooo soft!

Thanks Heather!
14 pounds at birth, and to think I complained about 7.6 with our daughter! LOL.

Found another one, he was sun bathing a few hours after birth...
Looks like this would hurt though!

4ever_blue...

Thank you! I forgot to post what he was... so many people think they are llamas. Nothing makes my mother more upset then having someone tell her how pretty her llama is! LOL.

They have 11 right now, three babies due in the near future including one that was due yesterday but is taking it's time. Have sold 4 recently, don't have growing room and just have to keep the ones they like the best and sell some when the babies come. They're hoping to find a larger farm soon so they can expand.

Here is a shot of their new future stud they just got in from CA. He's a doll!

What kind of "wool thing" does he do? My mother and I have started a new weaving business. She has a lot of friends into spinning as well. Have to do something with the mountains of fiber from these things!

Most $$$$ right now is in breeding. They are fiber animals with a very fine fleece. It is as soft as cashmere and 10 time warmer then wool but does not have that itchy feeling wool has. It is also low allergin since the fiber does not contain lanolin like sheep wool, this makes it ideal for people with fiber allergies. Garments made from alpaca are considered high-end luxury items and are usually only found through over-seas distributors, boutique and speciality stores, or fashion "experts" like Neman-Marcus.

Raw fiber sells for anywhere from $3-5 an oz depending on quaility, length, and color. It's real light weight and wicks away moisture so it's very popular with snow skiiers.

What's really neat is NASA uses this to line the astronauts space suits with.

Frank, if you look closely it's really a blue-tick, not a walker. See the ticks? And they won't let us show him, said something about him exceeding the height limit for the breed standard. Can you believe that?! I think they're just jealous... LOL.
