Question For Blue Dog Owners:

How many of you mostly just pleasure hunt?
And why did you pick the bluetick breed?

Right now I mostly pleasure hunt. That is going to change soon. I have just now gotten the type of hounds that I feel can compete.
I hunt Blueticks because I grew up around them and because fewer people hunt Blue dogs. I do not like to be like everyone else.

Ken

Our one and only Bluetick is silent as a stone, unless it's a very hot track with a beautiful bawl mouth on tree no compition here but he's very accurate.
We got him in memory of My Father-in-law he had a bluetick that bounced when he treed when we saw that cute bluetick puppy bouncing while he barked a week after my father-in-laws passing at Autumn Oaks we just had to have him.

BlueTicks

WYatt is "just a housepet". Our new puppy, owned with my partner will be living in WI for her training. If she is any good she will COmp hunt with my partner and hopefully be dual purpose and show...(and I have been ordered to do one bench show)... THEN when she is done with her career we'll GET TO PLEASURE HUNT her which is all we're really interested in here.
WHY Blueticks? Bob and I hunted Walkers and Redbones in the seventies.ONE GUY owned a Bluetick... Never forgot it. It was SO different from the regular coonhounds. Always wanted one. IT HAD A FOGHORN! (like my Wyatt does). I love the looks better than the other varieties. I LOVE any Great looking coonhound. I don't know enough about hunting Styles to care... My partner is a old blueticker... he has his own reasons and I lucked into the partnership!
Happyhunting ALL styles of hounds!, Heather and Bob William

I pretty much just pleasure hunt. I think I have entered one nite Hunt in 10 years.

I picked Blue dogs for several reasons.

When I was a kid, I used to sit around on cold winter nights and look at pictures of Bean's Ranger and old Ranger II, and thought they were the most beautiful hounds alive.

Then I got some of my own and was hooked.

The ones from this line seem to suit me better than anything else I have hunted with.

I also have made some good friends through these dogs. I have gotten better hounds through friendship than I have ever obtained with money.

I pleasure hunt but it isn't a pleasure to hunt something that can't win more than their share.

i pleasure hunt- gonna enter some hunts soon hopefully. but its just for the fun of it...

i picked the bluetick breed because my great grampa had blueticks and they were coondogs by any mans standards. blueticks suit me better than anything ive hunted, not that any of the other breeds arent good (they have their bad too) but thats just what i like.

Mostly pleasure hunt, but go to hunts for more places to hunt. Larger tracts of land here are hard to come by.
I prefer the blue because of that awesome sound of the loud drawn out bawls aaawoooooo. I do have 2 walkers but, that constant aw, aw aw aw aw . just goes right thru me. not knocken em just my preference.

I mostly pleasure hunt. When I started coonhunting 35 years ago dad hunted hounds that would tree a coon. Walkers never did it as good as a bluetick. I've owned 3 walkers. Either they wouldn't tree or they would chase deer. I know there is good and bad in all breeds. I just like the bootick bawl.
