The best coon dogs in the Walker breed, just not the most popular because of looks. Look at old Clovers reproduction numbers. No dog in any breed comes close to his PAD. It is all I hunt. Lee Logan does not get the credit he deserves.

I couldn't agree more. I no longer hunt walkers for various reasons, but if I did they would be Clover bred. I handled a Walker female in a few hunts this year that I really enjoyed hunting. She has plenty of Clover blood and lots of Hardwood Bozo breeding. I'll always have a spot in my heart for one of those black & white ugly Clover dogs.

What do you all think are some of the best and strongest clover bred studs out there today? Dont mean to hijack the thread but since there appear to be some Clover fans here I thought you might have some input.

Im kinda partial, I just got a pup from Oak Ridge's Joker dog. He is coming along quite nicely. Learns fast, he is sharp as a tack. . I dont know much about any of the other studs but they say that Conrager and Oz are throwing nice pups as well.

Most folks don't know that you nunt them at night and on ugly dog on a tree with a coon is prettier than and nice looking cull or a slick treeing idiot.

clover dogs

i beleive the best reproducing clover stud out there would have to be style... but i dont know much about alot of the other ones... will there be one out of him to match what he did i doubt it but one never knows... style hasnt had all that many females his way but alot of the ones that he has had come visit him were pretty nice females.. time will tell so far nothing has come even close to clover himself... he was one of those freak reproducers... there is alot of nice dogs out of him that never got pushed as with anyother stud but i have followed four that were directly out of him and none of there were sale for anyprice...

Aaron,

You bring up an excellent point!

Seems like the studs out of Clover get regionalized. Nobody will travel very far to make "ugly" coondogs, but will drive from coast to coast to breed to a tan headed-blanket backed dog....

I'll never understand it! No doubt that Style is a nice hound, Joker and Tuff are littermates. Oz has been bred to some of the nicest females available as he was the pinch hitter for Rat Attack for several years. There are several other studs out of Clover and they all seem to reproduce on the high end of the scale. None of them are being used a great deal because of the color of the pups that they produce.

It's a crying shame.

Whitey Dog ROCK!

This is coming from a black and tan man, but I personally like the Clover dogs. If I hunted Walkers I would try either a Clover, Boone, or Yadkin River dog. Liked what I seen out of all those.

Joe,

I think one reason the clover dogs do so well is the people who have them are coon hunters. We don't care about looks but results. The females that come are coon dogs owned by coon hunters wanting to make coon dogs and those who get the pups are also hard hunters. We don't have "Show" people looking at our dogs. LOL

HE was stripped of his degrees from UKC for one discepency at a hunt when he was a nite champ. He is still a platinum champion in PKC.

I have a Style pup right now that I really like. His pups have been doing a lot of winning locally.
A buddy of mine just bought a dog out of Joker and so far she has the same traits that I've seem from most of the clover dogs I've hunted with. She goes hard, is an above average track dog, has a nice mouth, and most importantly has the meat. To me the tracking and accuracy are the two things the clover dogs seem to come by pretty naturaly. Oh and I better throw independent out there. The ones I've seen had no need for another dog to get the job done.

They had success crossing Whitey on some Lipper's Little Buddy females i believe. I own one from a Little Buddy cross. She is the hardest going dog ive ever owned. She is not pretty to look at, but at nearly 7 years old she can still were at the young dogs on track.

I would imagine a Clover female crossed on rank would work. Since Whitey is Lipper bred, it would be a little linebreeding, but linebreeding on Lipper seems to work considering almost all dogs today are Lipper bred in one way or another.
Here is my females breeding
