how old when a dog starts tracking and treeing on there own??

It's all different. It depends on the natural ability with the training that he has received. But on average I would say 1 and a half and should be settled in by he is two. You can give some or take some age away, but that is from my own experiance. I believe it is Insane Jane that won the World Hunt and if I'm not mistaken she was only 17 months old ( I maybe wrong), so it all really depends.

I have seen dogs tree starting around five months and others not get set in until they're four or five years old. Like bamablues said, depends on the training and the ability.

Not being ugly, but who would keep a dog untill four or five years old that wasn't running and treeing? I personally wouldn't keep one past a year and a half and if the dog was hunted regular since a pup and was a year old he would be on the chopping block.

A guy I know bought a dog at three years that was just shown and never in the woods because of the pedigree and conformation. The dog's about six now I think and can hold his own on the tree. I took a while for him to train it but those ringtails are running now.
