How do you know if your dog is running a Bobcat for sure.ive got a 5 year old that will stay treed on some trees and other trees he may tree for a few minutes start heading to the tree and he pulls off and starts running a track again.ive heard they like to jump out.

Mink will jump also. If Bob cat try going in light out quiet as possible. I hear it is tuff tuff tuff to slip in on them.

I've seen dogs do this in thick coons. They tree a coon, then go trail up another 1. I've had quite a few dogs brought here that were thought to be running bobcats but when we got done working with them, they were just struggling with feeder tracks. I'm not saying that's what your dog is doing, it's just a few things I have seen.
The bobcat tracks that I have been in on seemed to be a long race after they jump. I would take note of that. Also you might take it with a straight hound and see if they throw in together.

What I have seen is . If you think its a cat , go to tree as fast as you can let it jump . They usually tree again fairly soon if dog is pushing them. Try to go to tree a couple times as fast you can let it jump, then after 2 or 3 trees sit down let him tree for a good while , then go in and if cat jumps he will be cold and stiff and the dog can catch it.

With the Mink they tend to like the trees with blow overs leaning in them and low limbs on the other side like an Oak to bale out off of close to the ground. They will also timber for a long ways as well and come down. Weasel will run across every log pile and down tree in the woods and go up and down small trees. The dogs tend to make a lot of noise in a small area and check a lot of trees. Gray fox will climb as well if a dog can push them hard enough. You tend to think there running a coon in the begining then they start doing circle 8's. With the thick coon deal it can happen in early summer when kitten coon are every where. Other than that it's dogs that come up from the south to thick coon. It just blows there mind. You shouldn't see it with a dog raised in thick coon, other than the kitten thing. Never done the bobcat deal but its coming they are showing up on trail cams here now.
