starting all over

Had to put down my old dog the other day. He got sick. Gonna be moving end of the month so will look to replace him once I get relocated back in the country. Was planning on using him to train my Dad's pup. It is always a sad day when you have to do this.

Sorry to hear of your loss,

It sure is sad every time you lose a hound. I hope when you get settled into your new location you find a great hound. Your old guy is hunting with some of the best of them now, take care, Heather William

Doug,

My husband Bob and I coonhunted in the 70s. I hadn't seen him from 79-2000. When I saw him in 2000 it was because I read in the Local paper his young wife hd suddenly died. They lived ten minutes away and I never knew it. Circumstances in my life had made me lose my carreer (I was a riding instructor and had a truck accident)... I was a single Mom. My animls and son WERE my life. When Bob and I re-met made friends and eventully married it gave his sons and mine REAL family. Then in 2003 I adopted B and T coonie from rescue, for Bob. Lexi was his FIRST pet of his own. She ended up having Rage Syndrome... bit our youngest son... Dylan, who didn't want her put to sleep. SO, not knowing what was wrong with her... she lived rather happily for a while in a greyhound muzzle. However... rage syndrome was dignosed.... she got crazed more and more, waking from sound sleep and attackin ANYthing... and, during an episode...the muzzle came off! SO... she was put to sleep. My husband STILL cannot look at a picture of her. Dandilions(lexi loved to eat them) make him sad.... We also lost a foster gal, Uma, after Lexi was gone. She came here for a "short time" to get over ear infections... but had a terminal illness so we kept her till she died. Still miss her to this day. I could go on... I've lost a few good pets, friends, family, horses.... I Know that they are happy and safe and painfree and worry free now. Romping and playing and hunting and all that fun stuff. I belive that.
SO- It IS always a sad day. There are folks who say "it's only a(fill in the blank-dog cat horse whatever).... get over it" There are other people involved in rescue (like I am- I am a b and t rescue volunteer) who think hunters are all creeps, treat their hounds poorly etc... Bull! The bond between a hunter and his hound can be stronger than anyone who hasn't experienced it can imagine!
I hope the dog you find when your ready meets your expectations or even exceeds them! Perhaps your old dog's spirit wil give the new one a little bit of an edge. I'd like to believe that,
Sincerely, Heather

Patches...

... my parents tried to get me to pursue that in college... Instead I became a riding instructor and therapeutic riding instructor. In my opinion that is as close to counselling as I could have gotten. (WELL....except RECIEVING counselling). I really just care about people, and animals... always did... now I just have more free time.
Heather
