People selling dogs.......

Really what are the chances of getting a nice hound or prospect from anyone at anytime? If someone has a good hound they will not sell it and I don't blame them for it. Not complaining but just want to make conversation. Here are the best ways I have seen somebody get a good hound. I think that we need this for some of the younger hunters on the board.

1) Hard work and train your own pup
- better to raise your own pups/ get your choice pick
- have your own female and breed to whatever you want

2) Sorry to say but gaining from someone's misfortune. Someone sells out and somebody might get a good deal

3) You break over and just pay the big bucks
- I just squirm to think that the dog could get killed
- Still hard to find a good one

Most of the time if someone is selling a dog there is something about it that they personally don't like. Maybe some can live with it and maybe some can't. Many people put prices on dogs that are really outrageous. But if someone is willing to pay them so be it.

So young hunters BEWARE!!! Find someone you trust and stick with them there are still people that will help younger and older hunters alike out.

i kinda agree

i sold combo a good young dog,,i sold him because i change from blue to walkers,,thats another reason

and i got a walker now dont know much about hunted him one time treed both times,i'm going to sell him reason is i bought him and the very next day sid jr came up for sale,i hope jr is the dog for me,,so thats another reason

I use and recommend Kelley's K-Lights.

There are lots of dogs out there that will tree a coon.

The more demanding you are, the tougher is is to find a dog you like.

Most hunters are tickled with their first dog that will tree a coon.

A few hunters get the oppertunity to hunt a really great dog, and spend the rest of their lives trying to find one that compares.

Don't judge all folks just because someone may have sold you something you didn't like. Also don't believe the old line that just because a dog is for sale something is wrong with it. Now all dogs have something wrong with them. There are no perfect dogs. However, I know for a fact that many times people gather up too many dogs and many times may have a real nice one. When they need to sell one or two the one that will sell the easiest is usually one of their best hounds and usually you can get a fine hound for a reasonable price this way. I know this has happened to me before. Heck it is happening now. I have a Dual GrCh I would sell but folks want to get a $3000 dog for $500. I will loan him out to friends to train their pups before I would sell him for next to nothing. Don't say you can't buy a good dog. That is not true. Just come on out to central N.C. and I will put you in the woods with a good dog for a fair price.

I pretty much only buy dogs from one man. I will take a dog off the chain from him because I've known him for a few years and know that whatever he says I can take to the bank. Granted, it is hard to get a dog from him for under $2000, but you get what you pay for and he always has top hounds.

It's usually easy to find a great pup from a good coondog, but sometimes hard to find a good finished dog. My best advice is buy any hound under the tree. Lance and I are both absolutely honest when it comes to our dogs. If we sell an older dog you will know everything we know about it - the good and the bad. We also like to let people hunt with them beforehand. Amy

I raise my own pups , own both sire and dam, if they suit me then I bred them and only then to get pups that fills my needs first. All my hounds are hunted on coon, bobcats and have a couple baying on hogs. I dont comp hunt titles dont mean nothing to me, treeing or baying the game I hunt and the way I like , is what matters to me. I do on some cases bred out side of my line to improve on a trait that I need help on, been doing this for about 20 yrs , you see lots of people on here with pups for sale and when you see any with my name on it you can bet the farm they come from hounds that will hunt, run a track, and tree or bay the game, with out help or in company
