Ive heard that they can be used to track dogs. Has anyone had any luck doing this?

I am pretty sure you have to use an Icom.I tried other brands and they don't work.

I used one for years. You need to use the 155 frequency and just ptogram in the frequecy and away you go, Worked pretty well. Then I won a system in a raffle and gave it away.

Thats all I have used for the past 2 years. Its takes a little getting used to but when you figure it out it works great. I can track any collar in our hunting club. The best part is it cost me less than $200.00 with a 3 year warranty.

Chris, on the CoonDawgs forum in the Product Review section there is a thread on it.

It doesn't have the meter on it like the Icom.

Icom

Well, the radio shack pro 95 is discontinued, but has been replaced with the pro 97. It does work, but not as well as the icom in my opinion. We bought one because it was cheaper but could only get about 1/4 mile signal on our collars. We returned it and got an Icom IC R10. The pro 97 hooks up right to the yagi with coax (as does the icom). The icom has a lot better range and the signal meter helps pin point the dogs location. In this case, you get what you pay for. I'd spend the extra $100.00 and pick up an icom ic r10 if you can find one (they are discontinued but you can get them used around $300.00).
