breeding ?

what is the deal with my male dog,he tried to breed her when we put them in the pen toghter but she wasnt ready.but now she is doing everything but putting it in for him.he smells it and licks it but goes back and lays down.this dog is in no way like his owner in this dept.annybody ever had this problem?the dog is coming 5 years old.

she may be submissive to the male but not quite ready.
i would pen them together as others have already said.
i have a male lab thats been bred quite a few times aand he will only breed a female when she is ready he hasn't missed one yet .
