Need advice. Help please

Backstory: I have a female that just turned 4 years old. As a 2 year old she was a nice hard going hound that would make an extra tree occasionally but for the most part was accurate enough(65-75% probably). Since her 3 year old birthday we have been battling accuracy issues that I cannot explain. She has went from having a coon 6 out of 10 trees to having 1 out of 10 if that many. She shows no sign of illness or ailment, goes just as hard as she ever did, trees just as hard as she ever did. She is not lethargic in the kennel at all. I had a tick panel done on her several months ago and she did test positive for erlichia which we treated with doxy (30 days 2 times a day). She has been off medication for over a month and still isn't showing any signs of improvement. She will sometimes run a short track and come treed but more times than not she is just moving through the woods and blowing up treed without any kind of track. She has been corrected and sent on over and over with no improvement.

Im scratching my head at this point wondering if the dog is beyond repair or if I am overlooking something or doing something wrong?

I am not familiar with the thyroid problems some dogs are having but from what I have read most dogs are sluggish and lethargic and don't want to hunt and she is neither....

I'm open to any ideas or advice she was a pretty nice dog at one time and I know she has ability, I just hate to see it going to waste.

This may sound like an odd question but what feed are you using? I raised and trained a nice redbone female that would lose her mind on a particular brand of feed.

ive having the same issue with 5 young dogs that just turned 3 this month, last year they were as deadly as anything ive ever cut loose, we have caught some coons this year but not at all consistantly, lots of trees that you would think would have a coon but cannot find, i to have scrached my head a many of nights, my latest conclusion is , im in west tn we are extremly dry, and we have had distemper come thru last year, my thinking is these dogs were started their 1st an 2nd year seasons in thick coons and ideal scent conditions, now we have really tough scent condishions an thinner than average coon crop at least where im hunting i mite ride for 4 miles through hardwood timber in a nights hunt an never shine a coon or have one cross the road in front of me, the hard reality is these dog may not have the noise power to tree coons in these conditions, and or the brain power to slow way down an really work a track. ive worked dogs for 35 years never seen this happen to a whole group of dogs, im just going to wait till we get some rain and try to find some new ground away from where ive been hunting.

Questions:

1.) Have you had these dogs tested for Lymes disease?

If not, do it.

2.) Do you know anyone who has a good dog with a really cold nose that is a really good track dog? If so, invite him for a hunt in your territory and see if his dog has the same issues.

3.) Lymes disease is a nasty disease. From what I saw in a nice male my best friend had and have heard from others, a dog with Lymes never makes a full recovery to being the dog they once were.

She has been tested for Lymes disease and was negative.

I cut her with a young dog last night, she made a slick and after I recut her the young dog treed a coon behind her while she went another 500 and made another slick🤦‍♂️..

How did you react towards her on the 4/10 she was slicking beforehand?

If I am certain she is slick I switch her a little bit while scolding her, pull her from the tree and send her on. I have corrected her over and over but it doesn’t seem to affect whatever is causing the issue. I don’t know if the dog doesn’t understand why she is being corrected or if she has a problem that is physically keeping her from being able to perform like she should. I have been consistent with correcting her when she makes empty trees and I do not praise or offer any reward for dens/circles. The only praise the dog ever receives is if a coon is seen and then I will pet her up and shoot the coon out if possible.

That's probably a good feed but as a test I would change for a short period just to rule it out. Synthetic forms of iodine can really mess up certain dogs. I don't know the exact science on why but I proved it with 100% certainty on the female I had.

Babesiosis , if you didn’t use a drug like imozol with the doxy. A good chance it’s your problem .

i havent had any of these dogs tested for lime, i am feeding the red bag value pac as well, i have had other dogs that are proven, they had the same issue with getting struck, although they didnt grab a tree, after a certain amount of time passed, these dogs watching them on the garmin if they are not hooked within 20 min they get faster an faster almost like they are panicing because they cant find a trac, then they will grab the biggest oak they can find an blow the top out of it never striking, got me??

Possibly treeing squirrels? -

I have taken her out in the daytime just to see if thats what she’s doing and she didn’t fool with them. Loads of squirrel here and she went deep and treed on a huge den 🤷‍♂️

What sort of bedding are you using? Cheyenne is anti cedar/pine shavings and thinks it can affect their nose. We use wheat straw in the winter.
If her overall health is good I'd lean more toward allergies. Ask your vet for an allergy shot. In less extreme cases we use generic zyrtec.

Sweet Potaters

You might try, sliceing up some sweet potaters, and bakeing them, it should help there nose, as they have a lot of vitimin A, in them. They will eat them pretty readly, as i have given them to dogs, that i thought could not smell right.
