ivermectin

hello, i've used ivermectin for 25 years for heart worms, never had any problems with it.
a friend of mine was at his vet , the vet told him that ivermectin messes with a hounds nose?
anyone hear of this?

I used it for years. Never have had an issue. I now use the once a month tablets for prevention as it is more convenient and also takes care of internal parasites.

I’d ask your vet to provide info. on any documented studies that back up his claims.

Ivermectin/Ivomec has been used by hound owners for 40 yrs. or more. That being said, unless you started using Ivomec on pups you raised and have been diligent in your usage of it I wouldn’t start a dog on it with out testing them for heart worms first. Using Ivomec on a dog with existing heart worm infestation will likely kill the dog.

It won't kill the dog and ya'll need a new vet. You have what is called a democrat vet. They hate ivomec, simply because they can't force more boosters on the owners of dogs who have ivomec. It kills the eggs and not the adult worms already there. They die off with age. No new eggs...No new worms. It can be hard on a dogs liver if you overdose it, but it would take a lot
.

You have two choices, vet like many have done on there own for many years or listen and take the advice of your vet. What ever your comfortable with.

1/10th of 1 cc per 10 lbs. of body weight.

50 lb. dog gets 5/10ths of 1 cc.
