Terrible twos

What do you coonhunters think about dogs going through the terrible twos?

Some dogs do and some don't. I sure prefer the ones who don't.

My experience has been that many of the dogs that have extreme desire and hunt will go through a stage when they’re willing to run about anything that lays a track. For me it has usually occurred in their 2nd season. For the most part those dogs have usually been very track oriented and have been a little slower becoming solid tree dogs.

I guess the short answer is if the good out weighs the bad be diligent and consistent in correcting them when they’re wrong and wait it out if they run and tree coon the way you want them to.

Note: I’m assuming you’re having trash running issues?

In the 90's I had a female that made Nt Ch in 3 hunts at 16 months old. She had 3 wins toward Grand and went crazy. She would run and trail all night, never tree. After a few months, she started treeing coons again.
