Any ideas on breaking dog off squirrels

Do it during the day and make sure you are certain it is a squirrel and not a coon.

never done it, but I've been told to drive around looking for squirrels and turn dog loose on them. Once you know they're smelling squirrel, give them correction.

Leave in trap, and leave in kennel, one of many ways.
Worst part is drawing dogs, not broke, owners don't understand it.
