GRNITECH GRCH 'PR' House's Lipper - Stud Dog Thursday

I don't know what it is, but I have always been a sucker for a good stud dog/kennel ad. I know some people may have a differing opinion and be against the self promotion, but I say, if you've got a good thing going, let the people know.

I recently found myself with piles of magazines on my desk dating back to the 1980s, digging up information for an upcoming episode of the UKC Hunting Ops Podcast and I couldn't help but notice the stud ads for dogs of yesteryear. Dogs that have had a huuuge impact on their respective breed and coonhunting as a whole.

I thought it would be fun to post a weekly ad, with some information on a new dog. It only made sense to start with one of the most highly discussed hounds in the history of coon hunting. I combed years of reproducers list and am confident in saying that this hound has more pups on the ground than any other coonhound in UKC's history. Without further ado...

GRNITECH GRCH 'PR' House's Lipper

Lipper's first litter hit the ground on February 18, 1983 when he was bred to a female named 'PR' Trinity River Roxy, who was directly out of GRNITECH GRCH 'PR Spring Creek Rock. His next litter, born the following week on 2/25/1983 out of CH 'PR' Warner's Lucille would have 10 pups in this litter, and 4 earned a nite hunt title. Dogs like GRNITECH 'PR' House's Lawyer, NITECH GRCH 'PR' Texas Creek Jolene, NITECH GRCH 'PR' House's Hunter, NITECH GRCH 'PR' Camp's Midnight Magnum and GRNITECH 'PR' Stanley's Sounder.

It can become a little dizzying when looking at a puppy list that has over 5,000 dogs listed. I don't have the knowledge or the room to talk about each dog out of Lipper that made an impact so I'll just share a few that stood out as I was scrolling.

Lipper X NITECH 'PR' Baggett's Dixie born on 9/4/1984 produced 10 puppies, 4 of which titled out. GRNITECH CH 'PR' Adios Lightning, NITECH 'PR' Lipper's Little Kit, GRNITECH 'PR' Dixies Baby Doll, and GRNITECH GRCH 'PR' Carter's Suwannee RI. Mike.

Lipper X NITECH 'PR' McKissick Creek Tabitha born on 6/1/1985 produced 8 pups, 5 of which titled out. CH NITECH 'PR' House's Lobo, GRCH GRNITECH 'PR' Lippers Sonny, CH GRNITECH 'PR' Hopkins' Cash, CH 'PR' McKissick Creek Sadie, GRCH 'PR' Cole's Ozark Annie.

On 4/27/1987, a four dog litter was born out of Lipper and a female called GRNITECH 'PR' Schmersal's Stylish Queen. Out of the 4 puppies in this litter, 3 were titled. GRNITECH 'PR' Korte's Stylish Chirpee, NITECH 'PR' Lipper's Stylish Babe, and GRNITECH 'PR' Wagers' Stylish Lipper.

A litter born on 8/1/1989 out of Lipper X GRNITECH Hively’s Big Sandy Brandy had 6 of the 8 puppies in that litter eventually title out. Dogs like, GRNITECH ‘PR’ Curry’s Big Mt. Tough Dog, CH ‘PR’ Sleepy Creek Jim, NITECH ‘PR’ Helmick’s Black Ranger, GRNITECH ‘PR’ Huffs Big Horn Lipper, GRNITECH ‘PR’ Deskins’ Windy, and GRNITECH ‘PR’ Abbott’s Big Horn Daisy.

Four years later on 11/7/1993, another Lipper litter out of NITECH ‘PR’ Stylish Dolly was born that ended up having 6 of the 8 pups in the litter finish out. CH ‘PR’ Sasha’s Natural Jake, NITECH ‘PR’ Dolly’s Stylish Queen, GRNITECH ‘PR’ Lipper’s Stylish Dolly, NITECH CH ‘PR’ Lipper’s Stylish Queen, NITECH ‘PR’ Northern Stylish Honey, and NITECH ‘PR’ Sasha’s Natural Bell.

One of the most impressive things about Lipper’s reproduction legacy is the fact that his first litter was born 2/18/1983 and his last registered litter with UKC, as of today, is 11/18/2020, 37 years later.

Lipper’s impact has been felt, way after his passing. In August of 2001, GRNITECH ‘PR’ Sackett Jr’s Stylish Jill dropped a litter of 8 Lipper pups that saw 5 more titled hounds. GRNITECH ‘PR’ Lipper’s Stylish Cade, GRNITECH GRCH ‘PR’ TJ’s Stylish Lipper, CH NITECH ‘PR’ Rankin’s Stylish Clint, CH NITECH ‘PR’ Stylish One-Way Rebel, and CH ‘PR’ Modglin’s Little John.

One of Lipper’s last litters, born in January of 2015 will be the last one I mention, though there are hundreds left to talk about. This litter was born from GRNITECH ‘PR’ Waltz’ & Risings Drama-Queen and had half of the 8 puppies finish to GRNITECH. Those dogs were GRNITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Waltz’ King-Pin, GRCH GRNITECH ‘PR’ House’s Skipper, GRNITECH ‘PR’ Oklahoma Lipper’s Lady, and GRNITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Waltz’ Trauma.

Lipper’s Pedigree:

------- GRNITECH ‘PR’ Houses Tom Tom
--- GRNITECH ‘PR’ House’s Clint
------- NITECH ‘PR’ Kentucky Judy
GRNITECH GRCH ‘PR’ House’s Lipper
------- GRNITECH Shives Goldhill Tom
--- ‘PR’ House’s Queen Lou
------- NITECH Shives Goldhill Lou

Lipper’s Reproduction Record:

Number of Pups: 5,145
GRNITECHs: 122
NITECHs: 294
GRCHs: 176
CHs: 295
FCHs: 1
GRWCHs: 1
WCHs: 1

One of the most controversial dogs of all time who's overall numbers aren't that great BUT his name appears back in nearly every Walker dog of our time. Just the feat of getting what had to be in the upper hundreds if not a thousand females on a dog that was GRNITECH not a World Champion or National Champion is something. He was out of a well known GRNITECH but his dam was a PR dog. I understand that titled dogs were not the norm back in the day. If nothing else what I learn from this add and Lipper's numbers is that Mac McCallister was a marketing genius!!!

Lipper actually was a PCA National Champion.

Not trying to be negative but it would be nice if someone who is better at math than me would figure Lippers %. Doesn't seem to be that impressive. What is impressive is the amount of money it made the registry registering that many pups.

8% were titled NTCH or GRNITECH.

Outstanding Reproducing Females

It would be interesting to know the reproduction percentage of the females that Trevor mentioned that were bred to LIPPER. Just my opinion, but outstanding litters usually have outstanding reproducing mothers more often than sires.

Outstanding females are always bred to one of the best studs available. Lots of mediocre females are bred to top studs. Then people say he only produces when bred to good females.

So Lipper’s stud fee in 1980 was $400. According to the internet $400 in 1980 would be equal to $1454 in todays economy! Never hunted with anything sired by Lipper but as told back when he was standing at stud he had a tremendous loud mouth. It would be interesting to be able to pit him against a present day top competition dog and see how they compared. I never hear anyone say Lipper was a tight mouth dog on track. Read where several said he was an extremely loud tree dog.

There's a video of him treeing on you tube.Audio only.Sounds like hes a bawl mouth treedog if it's him.A friend went and hunted with him and wasn't impressed with him on that night.Any hound can have a bad night.A good friend had a male directly out of him that was a very nice hound.Loud chop tree dog.Accurate.I loved hunting with him.I bought a pup directly off Lipper for 250.00..that would be like 500 .00 now.He was crazy and didn't make it.But I raised several dud pups off famous hounds.ha.Had better luck with pups out of friends hounds that weren't famous.

We still have to remember he is and always will be a Legend in the Walker breed. It’s not how many champions he produced because most of the pups might have fell in the wrong hands, some of the men were probably just wanting to have a good hunting dog. We’ll never know the truth about every pup he had. But Legend he will always be. Look at all your pedigrees and go back in them, I bet he’s there in most of them. Love him or hate him, he is one of the main studs of the Walker foundation.
Long live Lipper.

You're exactly right. And what can't be measured (at least not without a lot of time and energy) is how well Lipper's pups and grandpups reproduced. You go back to any 'major' stud dog of the 90s and you'll find Lipper crossed on Hardwood Bozo. Those two studs, though their numbers might not be individually high, influenced the Walker breed more than any other two dogs in history. If Lipper had 5,000 pups then his indirect offspring (those who carry him in their pedigree) numbers in the hundreds of thousands, if not the millions.

I've hunted a lot with nine direct off Lipper....four from the Stylish Dolly cross....I'd take a couple more in a heartbeat. Those Dolly x Lipper pups were born with more talent then anything I'd seen before or since. Anything close were grandpups.

He put more Chrome on his pups than any other hound,
When bred to the right female it was something else.

By the numbers there must not have been many of the right female's.

Lipper

Lipper actually was a National champion in pkc I believe in 1983 mac told me 30 years ago 1 or 2 good crosses would make a stud Dog also he said he didn't raise any pups out of him to compete against those breeding to him to sell also look at sackett Jr. and stylish harry also nocturnal Nailor what major events did they win themselves and they bred a ton also

Posted by Georgeb on 07-21-2022 02:20 AM:

Was it Sacket JR That sold for a high price for those days and the new owner pleasure hunted him and got him killed?.He was a proven stud dog when he bought him raking in the stud fees. Not the smartest thing he ever did but I understand him wanting to hunt him.May have been Sacket Jr's sire.
