Simpatico TRIO

Was wondering who else might use this and did you get the results you thought you would. Any alternatives you may suggest. Also perhaps some leads on saving some money getting it.

I've been happy with it. If you order from Australia it's about 1/3 of the US price. vetmedsforpets.com

full disclosure, I also use the Seresto collar. only downside to the pills is the ticks need to bite the dog to be effective. The collar kills most before they would bite.

I got my last order from Doc. You guys rock.

Bruce and others, the other way to save $ is buy the biggest pill for the 88 - 132 pounds. then split it in half for normal sized hounds. I've had some that needed full pill, but most hounds are in the 44-88 pound range. and it's only like 2 bucks more for 6 pack of the big pills than smaller ones.

correct, but get the big one and split it then each dog costing about $14 in treatment per month. cheap insurance against tick disease which is where I think most thyroid issues originate. Ticks are awful little creatures.

Trio

I used Soresto collars, had some health problems with dogs , can't prove it was the collars but can't prove it wasn't. This Simparica Trio is the best so far, ticks do not bite fast and absolutely no fleas, I do spray the dogs with permethrin about every other week. No worms and no heart worms, I feel it is the cheapest way to go , no vet bills!

Think im getting a soresto collar. What were your dogs symptoms when they may have got sick from the collar.Should you remove the collar when you hunt your dog to not get it wet.My dog is in the water alot. Thanks

You don’t have to worry about getting it wet, it stays working 24/7 for eight months. I haven’t had any side effects from it either. I leave mine on when they hunting also.

effects

Lost 3 dogs in 8 months time, to some kind of cancer, all 3 had wore them for around 5 years , dog one was female died at 5 years old, dog two was female 7 years old, dog 3 was male 10 years old. Like I said ,can't prove it was the collars but it sure seemed like that was the basic common denominator. The male was on a different feed than the females. I took the collars off when we went to the woods and put them back on when we got home.

My money is limited .I use the same ingredient in a different way thats the same as what the saresto collar uses for fleas. But i pull off some ticks. No fleas.Have never noticed a health problem using it.My dogs usually die at a old age.Theyre gonna die some how.Theres danger with any product. They all scare me.I understand your concern with the collar. My bluetick male hates me looking for ticks.Drives me crazy.Thougt i might try the collar on him.Gotta find something affordable.

you can get permethrin at most any farm supply store, it'll be with cattle products. or there are a number of ready to spray products out there like Sawyer.

I'd say follow directions on the bottle, last time I did it, I think it was an ounce of chemical to a gallon water.

you can spray your clothes/boots with this as well. permethrin isn't water soluble (not very well anyway) so it won't come off just cause your clothes get wet. at work, we would send clothes to a company called Insect Shield. I can say this stuff works. A year after being treated and washed a time or 2 a week, the chemical keep killing ticks.

I saw a news story earlier this week that there's 86,000 complaints filed against Seresto collars. One woman they interviewed said her one dog died of cancer which she can't prove was the collar, but the other one went blind shortly after using it.
We used them for awhile without any problems, but our one pup was ripping them off the older dogs and breaking them while playing. We decided to go with cheaper flea collars and Simparica Trio. It has worked for us.

We use it....

Bruce, we use it on Ella's Dachshund. Vet prescribed it. He's six months old and he likes the pill. Chews it up like kibble. He's indoors so have no idea how affective it is. No side affects that I've seen in four months of use.

Nexgard Spectra

I have been using Nexgard Spectra for about 18 months now and have been very pleased with the results. It takes care of fleas, ticks, heartworms, and most intestinal worms all with 1 monthly dose. I order from petbucket.com and get the chewables for 120lb dog, break in half and use for 2 dogs. Costs comes to about $9 per dog per month. I also apply a permethrin spray about once a week on my hounds, my boots, chaps, and other gear.

Is the permethrin .05% safe to spray on dogs as is or should it be diluted ?

I have some flea and tick spray from TSC that is .10% permethrin mixed with couple other chemicals so it should be safe to spray at half that rate.
