Conkey’s
Finally bit the bullet and forked over the funds for one of these fancy thermals. I browsed for a while looking for the best price from a trusted source. Conkey’s was the way to go for me. Best price I could find, even beat ol Amazon. Thanks Bruce and staff for the new gadget. Ready to try it out tonight on these East Tn mountain coons.
I think you'll like it. Hunted with one for the first time Friday. Dog ran a track about 800 yards and treed. We walked about 500 yards to find them on a huge, thick, leafy tree. We never did see the coon, but he found a dark lump in the leaves and said he thought it was the coon. He shot where he saw it and a coon fell out.

Donald, if it helps me find them in a hemlock then it’ll be worth the money! Nothing ruins a good moment like a dog burning up a track and treeing real hard then you end up walking in to a big hemlock!

WOW, so much for firearm Safety 101---
ALWAYS know your target before shooting!!
Now before your under ware gets to tight and your voice changes, I have no problem using it or finding the game, but "and said he thought it was the coon. He shot where he saw it", that I have a problem with.
Just remember there's a lot of "OTHERS" that are on these message boards and FaceBook and I feel they don't like what we enjoy and do, please don't feed the enemy with "things' that can be used against us.
Thank you.

No problem with that—
Problem I said is shooting at a target that they didn’t know what it was for sure😉
And if you think that it’s all fine on a hunting site, ask the guy that posted a coyote caught by hounds and he was taken to court because of the video and lost his State job.
Just saying

Old Timer, what you're saying makes no sense. We were hunting two 6-year-old dogs that have been straight for years. If they were trashing, whatever was in the tree could climb. It wasn't like we saw movement in a bush and shot. We did consider that our dogs might have treed a person and discussed it. If it was a person, it was a small person. we didn't think a three-year-old child could stay ahead of the dogs for 800 yards. We also discussed that at three years old he or she wouldn't have strong enough finger and toenails to make the climb. So, you see, we didn't just come into the tree guns-a- blazing we gave it careful consideration and did what hundred of coonhunters did that night. We harvested a real raccoon.

There you have it kids--
From the expert.
"I am to old to worry about hurting the antihunters feelings, so be it."
But this old guy does worry what the anti hunter and anti gun people hear and read and what they do think and the power they have. It's a lot harder to keep our rights then loose them. And with whos in DC now it has gotten even more scary.
So just keep shooting at those dark spots and feeding those 6 year old "coon dogs" fur and hope the Horse Shoe doesn't fall out.

Well,
What I have learn from Special Forces. The problem with your number of licenses sold is really only bought by about 4% of the total population so “we” are outnumbered PERIOD.
Ask Wisconsin how their Wolf season went this fall? Have you checked the membership of the Humane Society lately?
So you fight the way you want and this “coward” will fight the way we were trained and taught😉😉

I respect your right to your opinion, but you should respect the rights of other folks opinion. You threw "shade" on another hunters method.and was disrespectfu more than once. Peta loves this one hunter against another hunter, if we can not support each other, we should at least be neutral. We have NOTHING to gain by jabbing at each other on a public forum. Dave. p.s. Don't know what you was taught, but I was taught to attack the ENEMY, not my men.

Well, King of the Mountain—
No where did I say I had a problem with the use of the method to find the game treed, I said I have a problem of pulling the trigger when not sure of the target. That was it.
And the comment made about a 3 year old was funny BUT not far from want happened when hunting in the early 60’s for us. Dogs opened in the corn and took it out and treed. As we were going to the tree, what did we find in a tree?? Yep, a man who was running from the Law. He was hiding in the corn and when the hounds opened he thought it was the Law on his trail. SO finding someone in a tree while coonhunting CAN happen.
So this track/tree is done for me and you can minus or circle but I’m sure it won’t get pulsed😂😂

I never dreamed shooting one coon would stir up such a fuss on a coon hunting forum.

This occurred to me last night. My "coon dogs" treed on a big gum tree in about 18 inches of water. While I was tying dogs, the man I was hunting with said he saw the coon. I looked and there were two bright eyes shining through the leaves at the very top of the tree. We never did see a coon, only eyes. I see pictures on this forum almost every day of a coon in a tree. My dogs haven't treed a coon I could take a picture of in years. Would it be wrong to shoot at these eyes not knowing what animal they were on?

Even with a thermal it may be a possum or your neighbors housecat. Shoot it!
Donald
Lol. You are spot on my friend, some advise is given with good intentions, but was not given to much thought. This thread has gone sideways, let's get back to the OP's thermal purchase and it's benefit, we can not please everyone. Dave

I was very impressed with the thermal.
