What Could Be Problem??

Got young dog around 3 coon treer dog could take a scolding shocking or switching and go get in there and get you coon treed aint been hunted much past year but now you can't even scold the dog and its like his feelings get hurt and he just roams I mean first few drops looks like millions bucks then he may act like not going take off I holler at him and it's over not even looking for a coon. Idk what to do .

What could be the problem? You don't say this, but it could be a lack of human interaction for the past year.

I say good dogs don’t need to be fed many tracks so taking a year off isn’t all that bad and with a little hunting get back on track…

Something to watch out for is over correcting the dog…
The dog is young and laid off a year…and if the dog is gamy and without much experience will be trashing…if correcting for trashing the young dog will get the wrong messages…
1. The dog will think all game is off limits
So he will shut down his hunting…
2. The dog will fear the handler…
The dog will quit hunting…

If you have a straight coon dog…hunt the straight dog and when he strikes a good track cast the younger dog into the race and praise him at the tree…
Could be this dog needs more praising and less discipline until he understands that coon is what you want…once that happens you can slowly start breaking him off unwanted game…

You don’t want to always turn him in after another dog strikes but it will help to get him going right…

If coons are coming to a feeder cast him from those places so more than likely it will strike on coon before coming across a hot deer track or other off game…
This will help with more praising and less discipline…

Training dogs is not so much about quantity, it's more about timing, and the right situations...After that it's up to the dog....A hunting dog is born...

Young Dog

When he looks like a Million Bucks.....Let him know he did Great....!!!
When he doesnt go hunting just give him some time and you can ease out there with him. I think he will eventually get his drive going. Stay away from any kind of discipline & even Scolding, use a Soft Voice to tell him to get on in there, ....for awhile or he might be on a road to being ruined.

Hes probaby got a thyroid problem They loose energy after a hour or so
He needs to be checked out at the vet...Simple bloodtest os all it takes.
