Time For Some Other Breed Associations Step Up To The Plate

First I would like to start off by recognizing two that go above and beyond the Black and Tan Assc and the BBCHA. These two were present at Youth Nationals and they send trophies not only for the best in their breed for hunt and show in this hunt but every single youth state championship! A big hats off to them to their dedication in awarding and getting involved with the youth of our sport!
It is time for some of the others to join them! These kids are our future let's encourage them in every way we can.

Where you at NPHA? I understand that creating a website in this day and age is such a terribly hard thing to do, but supporting the youth at their biggest hunt of the year should be an easy decision for any association to get behind.

For sure, all the breed associations need to step up in a big way. We all talk about the future of our great sport well it starts at the grass roots. The future of this sport deals with the youth first. The youth need to be held high.

I must have been at a different Wisconsin State Youth Championships the last couple years then.

My point of this is that 2 out of 7 took the time and resources to recognize their respective breeds for Youth Nationals when it should be all 7. Maybe not all can send their president like these 2 did with their tents set up but all could send something to award the youth hunting and showing their respective breeds.
2 breeds do go above and beyond. If your state championship is not receiving trophies from the B&T ASSC & BBCHA you may have your state rep who is in charge of coordinating the event contact them. They are working together and send identical trophies in different colors from the same trophy place.

Your post is definitely inspiring and I agree 100 percent that ALL 7 breeds need to support our youth hunters. Our youth is the future of our sport and everyone is crying about the lack of hunters at the hunts, without new younger hunters we will die out and coon hunting will be just a memory for us old has been. I assume your talking about the UKC Chartered Breed Associations here? If so. Why isn't the Chartered Partnership a little stronger. UKC also recognizing the value the Youth bring to the table and the value Hound Hunting brings to the Youth. If I owned UKC and chartered a group (breed association). Somewhere in the Charter there would be an understanding of what they do for the Youth Hunters of that breed. There would be requirements of support at the hunts. One that Promotes and Supports our Youth.

BBCHA

BBCHA is not the UKC chartered association. it is the largest Bluetick association in numbers. The association strongly supports youth hunts and has one of the best yearbooks going.
dues are $30 per year.

President Jim Combs does an outstanding job.

If I am not mistaken Jim Combs visited us every year at Autumn Oaks. He was seeking donation for the Assoc. He is a hard working person. Chatted with him many times and enjoyed his determination and drive for the BBCHA.

Dave, if you enjoy reading history of old hounds and hunters, the Blue book is well worth the cost of the menbership. It might even convert you to a better type of coon dog. LOL

Lol. Nothing against blue ticks, I have owned a couple top notch blue ticks over the years. I especially like a Walker/bluetick cross bred dog. Yes, I love hunting stories and the history of the breeds, so I am sure my money to join will be well spent. Dave

The TWB&FA and the NPHA have got in touch with me since Youth Nationals to give them winners' contact information. Sounds like those kids have some awards heading their way from our conversations.

No worries Jeremy, the TWB&FA have actually went above and beyond and contributed a great deal to the Youth Nationals winners in recent years. Sounds like they are continuing that outstanding support.

I have spoken with the United English Assc (EUB&FA) and their high scoring English dog will be receiving a trophy.
In the future our respective breed associations need to do a better job of making their presence know and intentions of awards known. We can't continue to be shown up by the B&T & BBCHA lol!
If they are not in a position to have someone present to represent them they at least need an announcement to be made that awards will be mailed to their winners. I do think that awards should be made at breeds discretion not mandated by UKC Each one is in different financial situations so it should be up to them as to what they give and how.
Bottom line is for breeds to get their information out there and let these kids know you care that they are showing or hunting your breed.
As someone who was present all weekend and helping run the event if I only notice two doing anything that's all most others saw also. For the youth this is their big show like the World Hunt or the new Tournament of Champions is to the adults, find a way to recognize them publicly.
UKC did a heck of a job as did their partner Eukanuba! It is time for the rest of us to step up to the plate.

Thanks Allen, I did call our president and he informed me that the TWBFA does award kids in the hunt and show with a check mailed directly to them and not trophies. He had planned to attend this year and had some family stuff come up and couldn’t make it. I wasn’t aware we had been doing that way for afew years now, but makes me feel better.

For the future this needs to be made known and the TW presence represented in one way or another. It's one hunt a year we can do better.

I stepped down from the TWBFA board in April, so I don't know who did or didn't attend this year's Youth Nationals, why the tent was there, etc... I assume that the cash we always award to youth Walker winners found its way to those winners. I also know that over the last 10 years the TWBFA has given away tens of thousands of dollars in cash, lights, clothes, collars, leashes, squallers, pups, stud fees and pretty much everything else a person might use in the world of coonhunting to the winners at its breed youth event and the national event. The breed event was discontinued due to declining attendance every year, despite the thousands and thousand of dollars worth of prizes awarded. For what it's worth...

Anyone interested in being a director, though, can contact any TWBFA officer or director, most/all of whom are listed at www.twbfa.com. You can also view about a half century worth of TWBFA yearbooks on the site, schedule a sectional and join the association, if you're not already a member.
