Using a tt collar in a ukc hunt
What’s the best way to address that someone is using a tt collar in a ukc hunt?
New to competition hunting, second time I’ve ran into it.
First time Garmin was put back in truck, I noticed it before the first cast. Second time they acted like wasn’t anything wrong with it, caught it after first tree
I do know it’s 100% illegal
Scratch them. If the judge refuses to scratch them, question it, make sure they put the question mark on the card, and immediately go back to the MOH/HD.

I'll say it. You know what most are thinking but won't say.
It's like being a snitch.
We all know it's against the rules but it is done all the time because most people like to have the tone feature to recall there dog if needed for safety reasons and easier handling when the hunts over.

Collar
Make them remove collar to hunt or scratch if they don't. Simple enough. Dave

You can have the collar on your dog as long as your not carrying a device that can shock the dog.

Lone Pine North
I agree with lone pine. I ran into this not long ago and wished I had checked before we turned loose. Figured it out a little ways into the cast on a time out. I tried to form the question to hopefully see if it was intentional or if the gentleman didnt know the updated rules (he had mentioned he was out of comp hunting for some time). I fully believe he had no idea. He had no problem with a non hunting cast member carrying his alpha to finish the drop. And then the guide had a t5 collar he was able too use. I had no problem with this route. I knew I could have scratched him for it but I think this was the best way to handle it at the time I found out about it. It ended up being a good hunt and the guy bought a t5 the next day to use the following night! Lesson learned but fully reccomend checking the collars before the 1st cut to avoid running into an issue later. As far as scratch or ignore. It depends on situation.

Maybe some day the rules will change and make it acceptable to use a tt collar. After all it's a team effort ,handler and dog.
Yep team effort..
Like the guys you see at the hunts
Trying to get the extra edge..............
with his hand held on vibrate and calling his dog treed
or the guy that is watching his hand held as he is calling dog treed
remember when they were required to be left in the vehicle?

My concern with someone on a cast using a TT collar is that they could have an opportunity to control my dog. For example, my dogs are trained to quit what they are doing and come to me when they hear the tone. They don't know if it is their collar or the dog's next to them that is beeping. So, if your dog ignores the tone but you know mine will quit, you could tone your collar and make my dog quit and come in and take a minus. I don't like that possibility at all!!
If your dog don't know his collar beeping from another one, you might need a new dog. LOL I just love that line.

TT?
I honestly believe that 50% or higher of the Competition hunters out there today would probably quit if they couldn't use their technology. Not so many years ago we had no trackers and had twice or more hunters at the hunts. Go figure?? We've gone from the dog doing all the work and the handler calling the dog to the dog doing some of the work and the handler doing all the rest! I use and enjoy my tracker but I would still hunt without one whereas many couldn't say the same. As long as there's hunts, people will find a way to cheat, it's just human nature. Honesty and integrity are going by the wayside, we see it every day not only in the hunts but everywhere. Nearly all the time people know right from wrong but continue to do wrong for lack of morality. Only thing we can do is set a good and honest example for the younger generation to follow. Just follow the rules and take your lumps as they come, you'll feel better about yourself in the long run.

They might as well make them legal for the safety of the dogs. Crooks are going to find a way to cheat. I hear the new thing is a tone only collar that some people used at SS but I don’t have any proof. If your really worried about it better check the handheld too.
Some people are still using beep beep's
some can't afford 1000 Garmin with train and control capabilities
Just like the rules do not allow infrared, binoculars, looking into hole or hollow trees with camera or mirror
These are all viewed as devices that give the handler an advantage
What happened to the old art of turning a dog loose waiting for it to finish a track going to the tree and scoring it
Electronic technology.
Some guys can afford all the latest gadgets . Some can't.
But surely we all can agree that it gives unfair advantage against the ones that still come to the hunts with a rope lead, home made dog box, in an old truck and no electronic devices.
Puts them on the same level as the dude with the 50,000 truck,10,000 dog, with a 1500 dog box, 100 squaller and 1000 track, train ,control Garmin outfit
Being a little sarcastic but just to try to get point across of why there should be and are restrictions

Added expense
That's what a comp hunt collar is because it is about worthless for any training.
Advantages
Like it or not, there has always been and always will be the advantages between hunters and their dogs. Owning a high priced well trained dog is out of reach for many folks, but they all compete together. Surely no one believes that things are equal in any hunt, given the differences in what money can and does buy. Yes, some folks can and do compete with a dog they trained against those high priced hounds some folks are hunting and still win. The majority does not fare as well. Now that UKC has gone to a strictly cast win measure for making night champion and grand night champions, we have a little more parity in the hunts. No longer needing to be the high score equals things out in that respect. We will always have a disparity in the hunts based on the fact that some have handlers hunting every night competing against those who can not afford handlers and do not get to hunt every night. Understanding that the Hunts should be just another means of having fun win or lose eases the knowledge that there are major differences the higher the competition and always will be. Top athletes compete on a much higher level that those playing for the fun of the game. Have fun and enjoy yourselves in whatever you do, just be aware that the higher the prize the more effort is required to win consistently in any sport. No sport is equal for all that choose to play as there are way too many variables involved. Personally, I like to win, but always had fun when I competition hunted win or lose. Dave
