Great Coon Hunt

I have two granddaughters, 11 and 13, that live overseas. They have been home for a short period and wanted to go coon hunting. Well here in NW Arkansas it's hot, humid, ticks every where, bugs and you can't start till 9:30 so it's not the greatest time to take them. So every day when I would pray it would cross my mind to ask that we might see at least one coon. So Wednesday night we take Ole Leroy down on the creek and turn him loose. (We took some pop and snacks too) Leroy goes about 4-500 down the creek and strikes. They are saying "We can here him. He's barking". In a little bit I ask them does he sound different now? They thought he did and I told them he has a coon bayed in the water. We drove within 50 yards and they could see the coon swimming in the water. So I called Leroy off the coon and we went up on top of the hill and sent Leroy down a holler that in about a half of a mile went back to the creek. He didn't strike till he got to the creek but we could drive around to him. Shortly after we got down there Leroy treed. By driving across the creek (Which they thought was great as they were riding in the back) we could again get within 50 yards of the tree. Now Leroy is pretty accurate but I could not find this coon. Even had a thermal. So I was squalling and looking and the coon jumped out right at their feet. They were so excited. Coon went a short distance into a bluff. Home by 11:00. Seems like God goes out of his way to be good to us sometimes.

Not much better than time in the woods with the grandkids. Glad you got to share a long time tradition with yours!
