I feed Joy 24/20 year round. I just feed a little less in the summer. I'm in North Carolina.

dog food

I have been feeding the yellow bag Victor. Its a 22% protein and 10% fat. My young dog is an easy keeper. she seemed to get hot on the 30/20 proplan so I switched to this and can tell a big difference and its less that $45 for 50 pounds out the door at Orscheln! Im in southern Iowa.

Dog food is a subject that I wish I had the facts and answers to. I think it comes down to a feed a man can afford and has availability to. That HIS dogs do well on. I think there are a lot of negative things can affect our dogs from the wrong feed. Thyroid is one, getting overheated at the tree is another. Just to darn fat is another one. Having the energy to perform and not getting totally dehydrated is another.

What I have found is what one man raves about is another mans poison.

Had dogs do well on the just plain Purina Dry Dog Food. Had them not do that good on the $60 a bag Purina Pro. Had them do good on grain free food. Had them do good on corn base feed. Had them do awful on some feed that was great in every aspect, except overheating them.

Right now and have for a couple years, feed a grain free food. I judge them by looks, stool and any effects on hunting. Also throw in watching heat cycles in females. Only thing negative I see is they seem to drink some more water than they use to. But so do I. LOl

Pride pro in orange bag I believe its 28/20. Used to try to afford the Purina pro plan but this seems to be equivalent to that, hardly no stool and I run bear a couple days a week and seems that I can't tell any weight loss. Keeps em up 👍

I have seen more than a few post where brood gyps won’t come in heat with the high powered dog foods...seen it myself...

I been using valu pak for a good while now and really haven’t had any complaints...

Last couple of months I been mixing it 50/50 with Purina dog chow w/chicken, and the dogs are liking it better...the dogs actually look better and I’m saving money by mixing...probably saving about 5.50 per bag doing it this way...the drawback is mixing by hand...
