You just have to love this sport!

We all get on here and read about these comp hunts. Think about hunting in them and even winning them. But the roots of this sport are much deeper to mose of the men and dog hunt. It is about that pup or young dog, progressing into a tree dog.

I communicate with hunters that have done it a long time and many that are just starting out. The bottom line and most important things about the conversations. Is hearing the JOY is someones voice when that young dog starts to show promise or shows it is turning into a nice hound. Those moments in a coon hunters life is when the playing field is even for all of us.

You can talk to an accomplished guy that has won a bunch and think they are on a different level. You can talk to a breeder that has produced many pups that are in demand across the country and they are on a different level. You can talk to someone that has traveled the country hunting and you think they are at a different level. You want to see the foundation of this sport. No matter who you are or what you have accomplished. The JOY is having that pup showing interest and developing, is something that we can all share and puts us on the same level. Kind of peels away the onion and the heart of what we love can be shared. Rolls back the years and a youngster or an old timer has the same feelings of JOY. It unites us. Then we wonder off into our own world again. Determine to show the everyone who has the best. The joy of truly good young and old dogs can bring us together. The proving who has the best can divide us. If you let it. Remember your roots. The foundation of the sport. A pups first bark. A coon in the tree and the dog putting it there. Getting the credit. Even if you don't own it.
