breeding question

I knew a guy who raised a litter of pups out of a 8 year old female walker she had never been bred or had pups before she only had 3 pups they are now 15 months old 2 of the pups are super friendly and smart but do not show any interest in a coon they will go out by themselves but will not go if another dog is in the woods they show no interest in treeing at all even a hide or caged coon mostly just act like a 3 month old pup playing all the time both parents are coondogs and both started at a early age would the fact that the gyp is older and never had pups have anything to do with the pups a friend of mine said keep them up till fall and try again they would be 19 months myself I have not ever kept a pup past 15 months that hadn't started just curious if they might just be duds or the female had something to do with it

15 month old walker pups

To tnredman, the 8 year old walker female should not affect the ability of her pups as all as long as they are healthy and it sounds like they are. My recomendation is not to keep them up till fall but just the opposite. Take them squirrel hunting now where there are bunch of greys or fox squirrels and shoot some squirrels out to them. You can observe what they are doing or not doing easily. This gives them lots of experience quickly and teaches how to locate and tree. After the pups figure out what they are doing, take each one by hisself. Lots of top coon dogs were started on squirrels and don't worry about treeing a squirrel on a UKC Hunt at night because it wont happen. Once you put them back on coon, they will forget about squirrel hunting and you will see all the difference in the world. This will work, don't give up, give them a chance and Good Luck! One more thing sir, take a 22, no shotguns and I probably would shoot some light loads to start. Then move up to 22 long rifle, don't want to create a problem making them gun shy.
