Mange ?

How many have had issues with it. The scabies kind. What treatments have worked? How long does the dog need treated. How long until they are healed.

If it were my 60 pound dog I would give it 1.5 cc of ivomec
and a week later 1 cc of ivomec...those blood suckers will suck that blood and die...

Mange

I have been doing .003cc for three days. Than off for a day. Than .003cc for 3 days. Not clearing up. Two dogs are about 35lbs other is around 55lbs. Im just at loss with it. They have hair loss on their back and front legs and bottome side of belly. Its red where the hair is gone but not scally looking. How long until hair growns back.

Mange

Vets treat with ivomec for 30 days in a row, do not skip any days. Dave p.s. give 0.5 cc per day up to 1.0 cc per day depending on dogs size, larger dog 1.0 cc per day for 30 days in a row, no adverse effects on dogs other than collie type breeds.

The mange mite will die in a week or less...it will take a month Tito see some good hair coming back...

This same treatment is good for ear mites as well...what I posted first I went easy but that will work...

Most dogs that show signs of mange have a compromised immune system because all dogs get mites and don’t show any signs of it. For a 50 pound dog it only takes .05, 1/2 of a 10th of a cc of ivomec for 30 days and their hair should come back. You can google it and find that some things I remember like peas, green beans, and eggs among other things help their immunity. I’ve had a couple dogs that would lose all of their hair and come back better than ever using the ivomec but didn’t change their diet and therefore had to do the treatment again and again because without the ivomec they couldn’t handle the mites. Had another one that was localized hair loss and I got him over it, however I used the high dose of ivomec per the vets directions and against my better judgement and lost him a year and a half later due to kidney failure. Could have been unrelated but the very small dose of ivomec I listed above is still more ivomec than is in a heart guard tab for a 50 to 100 pound dog so I’m not a fan of the high dose of ivomec.

Nexgard tablet will kill the mite that causes too.
Give it the Nexgard and a 1cc of ivomec.

Bravacto will also kill the mange mite. Red Mange has been one of the hardest things I have had to deal with over the years. Thank goodness it has only shown up in a very, very small percentage of my dogs. The story on these mites is most dogs have them. But only in stressed immune system do they cause problems. If the dog ever starts to get small pimples that is a secondary infection. Really a uphill battle then. Been about 6 years since I had a female get it as a one year old. Vet recommended Bravacto and I was skeptic. But it worked.

I had a beautiful pup once many years ago out of Table Rock Flying Hawk. This was early to mid 70's. He came down with it. What a struggle to cure him, which I never did. Actually I did cure the mange but the treatments took a toll on his kidneys. Maybe 2 dogs since then but that stuff is a difficult project handle. I have talked to many vets and the treatment over the years has changed. Many treat with high dosages of Ivermec. That works but I don't think any two people agree on the dosage. Best of luck with your dog. Keep it clean and keep the secondary infection away and the chances are a lot better.

Burnt motor oil used to work but no one goes enough miles between changes now for it to get dirty. It was the sulphur in burnt motor oil that made it a good remedy. Very few people change their own oil anymore. You can use iodophur shampoo and get the same results without the mess. Use any antifugal topically to kill the mites or ivomec internally. If you only have spots, any ear mite treatment will work topically. You can also spray atheletes foot treatment on spots.

Flea and tick pills.

As Bruce and I both suggested they also kill the mite that causes mange. These tablets kill fleas, ticks, ear mites, nasal mites, scabies ect, ect ect. Hands down the simplest solution to your problem. Nexgard, Bravecto, Simparica and there are others.
If your dog has other irritation or pustular sores it will need treatment for it too. Common issues are secondary bacterial and or fungal infections. Blu-Kote or Wound-Kote spray are great topical sprays that treat both fungal and bacterial skin issues. You can pick up at your local farm store. Your dog may also require antibiotics if it's bad.

Mange

Three hounds have it out of 9. Its mainly on their front and back legs. And underside of the belly. I dont see anything near their heads. They do itch but not crazy bad. One has small white bumps starting. I bought a antifungal spray today to spray them down in between the shampoo and happy jack solution. I will try to get a few pics of it.

You have to get something to kill the mites. You have to keep the infection from taking hold. It is in part due to their immune system. Why because all dogs are exposed to these mites. It only affects some expecially when stressed.

I forget the dosage but an elevated level of ivermectin in the 1/2 cc to 1 cc range for week to 10 days is also a treatment. I don't think your going to win the hard battle you have ahead of you. Unless you go to a vet and they won't be cheap.

RED MANGE is the most devastating thing an owner can deal with. In the old days before the newer medicines. It didn't just go away. Also we haven't talked genetics yet. You have to choose your breeding stock well for many reasons. This is one of them. In the old days 40 years ago. I had a vet recommend CARBOLIC ACID mixed with mineral oil. Like Richard said. Any medication mixed with oil base product. Is just to have the oil keep it on the skin to allow the medication to work. That is what motor oil did when mixed with sulphur. It kept the sulphur on the dog.

Don't think you said how old these dogs were. From you last post I suspect it is in a litter of pups? how old are they. I would also suspect the mother had it when she was younger.

James, sorry I can't give no input on your question. I have no experience with strangles. Wish you and the pup the best.

No strangles is not related to red mange. The mange is caused by an out of control mite infestation and strangles the immune system attacks itself via the skin.
I've seen 3 cases of strangles. One was in a female pup I raised. It was treated with steroids and antibiotics for the secondary infection of staph. I also used the topical Blu-Kote spray to treat and help dry up and my own homemade Nu-Stock. All that I know about turned out fine health wise with no long term issues. If you have any questions feel free to call me.

Thanks guys I appreciate it! For 29 years I've been married to this coon hunter and I've learned by necessity. There have been literally hundreds of dogs anf pups go through here so there is not much we've not encountered. I also love research and these dogs have lead me to a lot of medical research on canines. I'm glad y'all find it useful. I'm sure most of what's floating around in this blonde brain is just taking up needed space lol! Remembering nearly everything I read is a blessing and a curse.
Deercop, we do quite a bit of traveling to hunts so who knows you may run into me somewhere!

This might sound dumb
But you say it is mainly on their legs and under side.
What are you using for bedding
