Getting dog to hunt deep
What's the best way to get dog to hunt deeper in thin coon??
This little female hunt out about 200yards and if she don't strike a track
She will come back and hang out for little then go back out and come back.
She hunts good in think coon but not so good in thin coon.
Any advise will be appreciated. Thank you

Not really something you teach a dog, there either born with drive or not. But if she is young, or just started she could still come one and start hunting deeper. A young dog, I just pull up a log and stay seated and ignore them when they check in. Sooner or later they leave and hunt out further. If they pull up a seat next to you thats a problem. This can be a man made problem if you hunt off feeders too much. Walk hunt them. Just make one tree and move to the next woods. Or always cut a dog right into timber, and not make them haul butt across fields to get to the woods. Sometimes you can hunt them with a deep hunting dog a few times a week for a while and they will pick it up. I'm sure guys will tell you to put a boot on them, that dosen't work.

Agree
I agree with everything they stated stay away from feeders as much as possible. It’s always nice to know a hot one is a couple hundred yards away but your hound will know that to they are bred to hunt and that’s what they will do. Also the genetics may play a role in it. What were the sire an dam like. Some dogs are like people and don’t want to go a mile
Hunting
I might have just to give her more time tonight she went 390 yards and got trees and had coon that a tough walk in 10 inches of snow. It's been cold up here in Michigan. Thank for the advise

You have a bunch of feeders up there in MI. They’re called fields! 😁 Up there, she shouldn’t need to hunt deep.

How old is she? Most of the time it comes with age.
To try an speed the process up mess with her head. When she comes back put her in ur wheeler or truck and move 20 yards and cut her again. She will learn coming back really dosent mean anything. If shes got it in her she will eventually go till she hits a track.
get back in truck she will get farther away---go where there is thin coon --NO FEEDERS around --- U will have to do it Several times
