Coon hunting in New york

So last night i was on the phone with a gentleman who has a really nice male hound up for stud. In the conversation he brought up about me living in new york. He said so New york city?? LOL . Why is itwhen isay new york everyones first thought is the city?? New york has huge hills and Mountains. Adirondacks!! Catskills!!
We New york hunters also represent our state well in competition. Whether its UKc or Pkc. I guess i just took his question a little to personal. sorry for the rant.

Do you think it's any different living in Illinois? I was born and raised in the Land of Lincoln and most of the time when you tell someone that they automatically think Chicago, never mind that I lived 250+ miles from Chicago.

And the same is true for lots of states. You live in Georgia, everyone thinks you live in Atlanta. California, LA. Colorado, Denver. And on and on. It's nothing to take offense at, just be kind and explain where you live.

What makes this post even more ironic is that one of the most well-known competition hunters from New York, who won probably the biggest year-long competition of it's time, is Richard Moore who lived in....New York City.

We have the opposite problem in Louisiana. When I tell someone I'm from South Louisiana their first question is, do you hunt alligators for a living.

I'd tell them yes just to make myself seem more dangerous!

NY.... Grew up in upstate NY myself. Transferred through work to IN back in 2006. People always asked, “where do you coonhunt in NYC”? They have a hard time understanding I was as far from that craphole NYC, as I was from Fort Wayne, IN. I still laugh at their surprised look when I explain we probably had more hillbillies around the swamps where I grew up. I always followed that with “I are one”! 😁

It sure isn't easy being a coonhunter up here.
Like everywhere it has it's ups and downs.

I agree. No hunters and no clubs. Dog has to be able with what we call the 2 w's, winter and water. Lol.

That would have been Richard Moore who owned Smith’s Hardtime Rocky one of the most famous English studs of all time.

You're right. I don't know why I wrote Richard Smith. My hands were typing faster than my brain was working apparently!

Rev. Moore

Drew him a few times, always had a good one on the end of his leash, usually had a couple spectators that came with him.

I used to go to upstate NY every year to coon hunt! About a hour north of Syracuse. Really nice people, beautiful country, and some big coon. Always had a good time, and some of those big coon, ran like deers.
