How old is too old?
Got a buddy that is in the process of acquiring a 5 year old full blooded coonhound that came from a pair of real coondogs. Dog has never been hunted. What is the chances that given a chance this hound will make it? Does anyone have any examples of this type situation?
Thanks in advance.

Give the dog a chance, it will probably really surprise you. Older dogs usually start quick and progress quickly. They may not make it but usually in a month you will know what you have verses a year or more with a pup.

It’s all about the genetics. If they are there they’ll show up given a chance to hunt. May not end up as good as it might have if it had started as a young dog simply because it won’t have as many years to hunt before the age related issues begin to take effect.

It depends on the dog. Sometime 9 months is too old.
