White River
There is usually a thread on here every year about this time....Does anyone know how the water level is?

Deer hunted down on the South Unit a couple weeks ago and it was really low, and there hasn't been much rain since.
Having said that, all it takes is a big rain somewhere along the river for the levels in increase dramatically. Some of the worst years for water were bone dry in October and early November.
There was a decent mast crop down there this year, and I saw a few coon while I was hunting. The hog population has absolutely exploded (at least where I was) to the point that a dog is gonna encounter them every drop, every night.
Shows how dead the board is. Usually the White River Refuge post has multiple pages of replies.

Unless you live in that area most coon Hunter's are "over" WRR. Over hunting, too much water in the Spring killing kittens and logging have just about ruined it. Like a whole lot of things it just isn't what it used to be. But you won't run into as many hunters as you used to.
And if you have a dog that gets deep and lonely, they can get real deep and real lonely down there.
Headed from Michigan down there , I hope everyone maintains social distancing !
Headed there next Friday
Im sorry for asking because I know this info is somewhere on this site but what are the dates for hunting in the WRR? Any recommendations from someone that has been for which to hunt the North or South section?
The refuge is split into two units, separated by Hwy 1. The South Unit is open Dec 1-15, and the North side is Nov 19- Jan 31.
I used to think the south unit was better, but because it's only open for two weeks its significantly harder to get away from the crowd.
Two important things to remember. They now require a user permit in addition to your hunting license, and they have instituted a tread depth limit for tires on wheelers and UTV's to reduce wear and tear on the trail system. And believe you me, the LEO presence will be out in full force for the two weeks that the south unit is open.
The South Unit is easier to get around on. But for that reason, it is a lot more crowded.
