Nationals

How do you Qualify for the Purina Nationals?

Posted by Donnie Stevens on 11-01-2020 01:30 AM:

I don't know how it goes. Looks like there's a Leopard dog in round three that didn't hunt the first two rounds. Only two casts redbones three casts of everything else.

sWhat are they going to do with the extra 5 dollars entry fees that war charged for every dog entered in a ukc hunt? Wasn't that what paid for this hunt?

Purina paid for this hunt. Dogs qualified in 2019. Since Purina is no longer a sponsor, there will no longer be a Purina Nationals. They are going back to the way it was a long, long time ago when they had "Purina Hunts" and you earned points. But Purina Hunts will be mostly just Breed Days. Dog at the end of the year with the most points will get a cash award. I don't know for sure but I heard, $10,000. Also Purina will give each breed association $200-$300 to give to the Overall Breed Champion at their Breed Days hunt.

I thought that this was awfully nice on the part of Purina. It just goes to show that competition or capitalism helps the consumer.

Mr Hennesey, you are getting several hunts mixed up. There has sure been a lot going on with added money the last couple of years. There is the World Championship, the UKC National Championship and the Purina Race with it's year end Purina Championship.

That is right, Jason. The winner of the money will be the dog that wins the most hunts over the course of the year long "race". That was the way it was " back in the old days". They started getting away from that when they added State hunts to increase participation in them. That didn't work so they added the end of the year hunt. That didn't work so now they are going back to the original race.

Purinia announced a brief description of next years lay out for 2021 at the event this weekend. In a nut shell and could change some before official but they looking at paying overall show and hunt winners at 12 (ish) major events in 2021 and accumulating points at these events for cast wins and show wins. The highest point winner at end of year will receive a large money award from purinia. It’s money is not connected to the increase entry money, that money is for the tournament of champions. I feel sure it will be finalized and announced in the near future. The breed hunts were something that seemed to be a “for sure” and the remaining events to equal the 12 (ish) were not set in stone yet from what I took away.
