Win Percentage!!!

I was just setting here thinking I had entered my young dog in few hunts and he setting at winning 50% of his cast which im sure will drop but i wondered what these big name hounds that have are ran wonder what there winning peecent is or what should a dogs be that will win consistent

I would say the ones you read their name more often than not at the major hunts are 80 %. They are hand picked to fit the rules to a tee. No expense is to large.



Tar

The Nt Ch Cold Run Blue Yelp dog of Lucas Tipton an mine has been at 50% since we started putting him in the UKC hunts. Of course you fall behind and go up on percentage from time to time. Im ok with it. Win some loose some.

Consistently

If you're going to use that word I'd say it would have to be above 50%. I don't know how many dogs can, have, or will accomplish that their whole career. But bottom line is if you're hitting the hunts and not consistently winning you must be consistently losing. Don't feel bad in most hunts for every winner there's 3 losers. But hey seems everyone doesn't know what some words must mean. I've heard of lots of hounds that consistently win. Just like I've heard of hounds that consistently reproduce or hunters who consistently hunt every night all night. Or a place where consistently they sight Bigfoot. JMO

Percentage

The odds say you have a 1 in 4 or 1 in 3 depending on cast numbers, you can not go by odds. Odds assume everything is equal and with dogs, that is not the case. Some dogs are better suited for the RULES, opening quicker, etc. and some dogs are just better coon dogs. You also, have other factors to consider, like where you get to hunt, thick coons, thin coons, or no coons. If you have a dog that fits the RULES and is accurate, you should win at least 60 percent of your casts if hunting for money or you have no business hunting that dog. You won't even break even at 60 percent, but you should NOT lose much. Another factor is the pulse size, winning a bunch of small hunts is not the same as winning an occasional big hunt. Winning percentages mean a lot less if you are just winning small local hunts with small purses. Dave

In my opinion the greatest hitter of all time was Barry Bonds. He was only successful 30% of the time he came to bat at the major legue level. But take him in his prime and put him at the high school level I’m sure every coach would have intentionally walked him. If your winning above 50% the competition your hunting against isn’t very good.

I been doing this for many years. If your dog is winning 50% or more he is above average no question about it.

I have always said the difference in a coondog and the average dog is the one with the coondog goes to the hunt expecting to win the one with the average dog goes hoping to win.

Everyone has different standards an expectations ,Iv done this a good while and my numbers for one to stay here is 50 percent WINS ON THE ROAD and 70 percent WINS at home
