Htx Question

Now that silent hounds are allowed in a ukc nite hunt, does a hound still have to open on trail for an HTX pass?

Yes, they do in HTX except for Curs, as it always has been. No criteria has changed.

Mr. Pinson

You would need to strike the dog and tree the dog, you could strike the dog on its locate and tree the dog the next bark. Dave

There's actually no requirement of the handler to call his dog struck. When the dog does open and trails, the judge simply checks off the box that the dog can in fact open trail. If the dog were to just fall treed, the judge could not check that box.

some how it just don't seem logical that it's the only thing that doesn't follow the current rules for a normal ukc hunt.

It is much easier to tell what one dog is doing on a hunt test versus three or four dogs on a cast. You would still have to have a dead silent dog to not be able to pass a hunt test because it didn't open on a track.
