Accuracy

How do y’all fix accuracy issues in your hounds scold em send em packing? Wondering the different methods that work .... have a young dog that is a tree dog some nights looks good others not any input greatly appreciated

Give me a little history on your dog after you correct him does he go on and tree the coon ? Sometimes after two or three corrections it’s good to let them tree for an hour or more. A lot of times we get to the trees to quick. Often times the dog will move itself on if given enough time.

You’re getting ready to hear that nobody on the internet has this problem but you!!! Just about everyone’s dog on here or Facebook is 90% accurate lol

The night I bought him he was slick on one n treed a lay up when the winds blowing that’s when he shines if he don’t have to track one up n just wind one he will he prefers it but he will grub a track that’s where he’s struggling other night he went 2 for 2 n fast I mean flat out smoked em had the meat last night went 1/3 coon not moving very good didn’t let em up on the ones I thought were slick but praised em up on the one he did tree me personally I think he got lazy last night

I never pet one on a tree never if I want to reward them I put fur in their mouth but that’s just my old doggie way of doing things lol.

I understand that but what I’m trying to accomplish is improving his accuracy the guy that had him during season was shooting everything out that he treed I think that’s where the problem lies

He does check himself n dosent just roll it up on the first tree the track comes to n I honestly don’t know how he’ll take correction I’ve only owned him less than a week still trying to figure out his qwerks so to say he ain’t stupid he’s a fine young hound just a tree dog he’s out of grntch the master latch n I forget his bottom side off hand

Yea the guy was honest who I got em off n I do hunt in thick Coon yea I was gonna give him some time to get used to everything but I’m wanting to straighten him up do u have a suggestion on how to ?

This is what I do , when I got a "Tree Monster".
I take it hunting by itself or w/another dog, (doesn't matter).
On the very 1st slick tree I verify it's absolutely slick.
Once it's verified .
I leave that dog I'm working on, there at that slick tree ,loose.
It will keep treeing until it decides to leave .
Mite be 30 min. or an hour+.
U mean while go sit ur butt down in the truck....and wait, if u got a Garmin, u can see where it's going when it decides to leave.It mite come back to the truck or keep hunting on it's own.
Next tree if it's slicks again ...do the same thing.

It's only taken a dog with brains 3 times of me leaving it on a slick tree....
No punishing ,no ecollar , no correction on my part.
The dog will figure it out if u got PATIENCE.
IF U don't have patience it won't work .
U gotta get the dog to think on it's own.

It’s hard to be positively sure they are slick now. Another thing too most of the super dogs I know are missing some right now.

Hes old if he is off Master latch isnt he? My buddy had one off him years ago that was very accurate

These dogs are bred to catch game continuously not just now and then. Lordy the things you read on the internet.

I bought a female some years ago (still have her) the night I tried her she treed 3 times had 3 coons bought her on the spot. I hunted her for 3 weeks and never treed not one coon. I been hunting a long time and thought I had been had. But couldn't figure out how. Well I guy I know went hunting with me and told him the story of how I got took. He said she's just trying me and show her who's boss. Well I thought he was crazy but I was willing to try anything. Well I tore her butt up real good and needless to say it worked cause she's my main dog now.

I will give you some help on possibly fixing your problem

1. Give the dog time to get acclimated to you
2. Make sure he’s healthy and has no infection or allergy issues
3. Put him in the woods consistently and get him hunted up
4. If he comes up slick, take a switch to him and send him on as many times as it takes until he’s right. KNOCK that one out.
5. Repeat step four until you get him right or you cull him.
6. Knock out as many as you can if he’s treeing them consistently. Give him a good foundation and base to build on.

My stuff slick trees, but not because I kill coons out to him.
All dogs slick in real live hunting conditions. Lot of folks won’t admit it but they do. Fewer still will correct them for it. Do not beat the dog half to death with a switch. Just make it uncomfortable and tell him bad dog. Slick. Then send him on.

This dog game isn’t rocket science. Just takes a lot of hunting, time and common sense. Good luck.
