-- Strike Points Question. (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928528958)
Strike Points Question.
Two-hour hunt. Dog's A, B, C, and D are all struck in that order. Dog B is the first and only dog to be declared treed. The cast goes in and scores the tree. Coon seen. 1 hour and 15 minutes remaining in the hunt. Remaining dogs still holding original strike positions.
Dog B is recast and declared struck merely 10 minutes later for 25. Eventually, Dog B trees again and is declared treed for 125. The tree is closed with no other takers. Circle tree. 50 minutes remaining in the hunt. Remaining dogs still holding their original strike positions.
Dog B is recast. Five minutes later he is declared struck. You're the judge; what are you giving Dog B for strike points here?
Vote!
Official answer coming Monday, April 13th.
If I was handler of Dog B, I would insist that he strikes for 25. They can't beat him unless they minus him 225.

Allen, do we have to know at what time the other dogs struck to answer this?

After two coons scored you go back in for 100.

After two coons scored you go back in for 100. I didn’t know it was two trees.
Tar
I think the intent here is that they all struck in at the beginning of hunt time. Dog B goes back in for 100 since all the other dogs held their strikes over an hour.

Rule 11d says after a dog holds its strike position for 1 hour the strike becomes back open. I thought it used to be after you score two coons but I don’t see it now.

What if dogs C and D are struck in 30 min after hunt starts? What if Only Dog A is struck in the first 5 min and Dog B is struck in 20 min after hunt starts? Does that make a difference? Obviously if you use the "2 coons scored rule", time makes no difference. But if you use the "1 hour rule" then when does the 1 hr start and stop? What if Dog A trees with B? Does the 1 hr then start when Dog C first opened?
Chey says hundred not just because an hour has passed but because the others should have withdrawn and taking care of some business with their dogs lol.

My interest in trying competition hunting reduces greatly every time I read one of these. Way too complicated. Even more complicated trying to figure out which part of the rules to look to to figure it out.

Rule 11.scoreing dogs...
(d).......A dog cannot be struck in over a position that is being held xcept when a dog holds it's strike position for an hour.
In that case, ALL strike position will be open to other dogs.
So if a dog(s) struk at (what ever time) into the hunt , not when the hunt starts, start the 1hr. (recasting) strike rule ......
Most start the 1 hour when the hunt starts , which is wrong....that used to be along w/the separate 2 coons scored.
This IMO is another unintended new ruleing reprecushion....
should of left it as " one hour of "HUNTING TIME" or 2 separate coons.

It's the same it's been for 25 or more years. Nothing changed George.
Oh my goodness, I thought that they changed it when they took out the 2 coons scored part.
Hour hunts
This is easy to simplify if anybody is having trouble understanding it. Just hunt in the new one hour hunts and this rule will never come up. If it does you better keep both eyes on the judge.
Ok Allen , where can I find the 2 separate coons scored in the new rules... . ?
Mr houndsound, hunters like to make it sound a lot more complicated than it is to confuse you. It is very simple. If a dog (any dog) is struck in for more than an hour, then your dog strikes in above him. Otherwise, you have to strike in below him.
Now then, what if A,B,C,D strike in that order. A trees after 1 hr, is recast and strikes back for 100. Then B trees and is recast. Does he strike for 100 since C and D have still been struck for an hour or does B have to strike in below A since A hasn't been struck for an hour?
