older dogs

I got some bluetick hounds(6/5) I bought form a guy at church, that I know that run and tree. but he has not run them in a year . I took them to woods and turned them out on a feeder. they just run around sniffing the ground, they don't bark like they don't smell anything ,but feeder has been hit. Any ideas?

Maybe it wasn't a coon on your feeder. Possum? Hog?

It's hard to judge them on one dump. I would take them a few times, especially since they have been laid up...

Some dogs will act like they have never seen a coon before if they have been laid up for awhile. Also some dogs just act weird for awhile when they go to new owners. I’ve seen really nice hounds just like what I jus described that acted that way and then went back to acting normal after a short period of time.

Maybe it would help to take them out 1 at a time so they aren't distracting each other. It could just be because they haven't been out and need to re-familiarize themselves with things.
