Group going around my area pushing tethering laws
Their is a group of what mostly seems like older women with their overweight lap dogs pushing tethering bans in my area. Anybody got advice on dealing with them. I know if they start this their will be so much more.

I would say you need to find out the State or Local official that is sponsoring the Law/Bill. See the wording of the Bill and get it stopped or changed. On a state level there are websites for each state that has upcoming bills and their sponsors along with the bill itself.
We had the same thing come up here in FL. Just a couple months ago. The lawmakers were convinced that during storms or weather conditions that dogs were left tied to fend for themselves. That was the issue they claimed but the law would have had a much further effect. What we did and it seems like we always compromise. Is have the wording in the law changed to speak specifically about a national weather crises. Example is a hurricane or other national disaster. That worked for now and calmed everyone down. We worked through a state Houndsmen Group to get the wording changed in the bill before it was voted on.
Let me say that just about every state has Houndsmen Groups. Some have a little more clout than others and that usually relates to how much and where they are spending their money. Some groups have good intentions but just having local cookouts and raising a few hundred dollars does not do much. It can cost $30,000 to $50,000 as a starting point to have people in place in the State Capitals to look out for these bills, get recognized to professionally discuss them. Then get the wording changed so we can live with them, or not passed at all. BEFORE THEY ARE LAW.
Good Luck and support Houndsmen Groups that are spending their money wisely.

They’ve already passed it in they city now they intend on pushing it on the surrounding small towns in the area. I’ve been the kind of person that is quite and sits back and doesn’t want to draw attention but I’ve don’t got into it with them. Makes me regret buying a house in the city limits. Guess I need to find out about city council meetings?

The truth is most of us are like yourself. The situation ends up being that most of the time we dont even realize the laws are being passed until they are in place. We had a situation here in our county just this pass month the the board of commissioners were voting to make this county a sanctuary city for owning guns. 3 people showed up and they tabled it to the next meeting. Word got out and 300 people showed up. It is all about staying ahead of these things before they are put into law or voted down. That my Friend is hard to do. Wish you the best of luck.

all of us must get involved in local politics.. it's not hard to do. Just find out where the GOP or Tea Party meets and join them. support conservative candidates that run for school board and county commissioners. pass out voter guides at polling places.

I was on the planning and commissioning board in my city...I made it a point to do the best job I could for the city...I also represented what the majority wanted...one time there was a big push to change things and the folks making the most noise and going out and getting signatures deserved to be heard...I didn’t like what they wanted but my vote went on what they wanted...and they got what they wanted because of the work they put in...
All I’m saying is get 15 to 20 folks to go to the city council meetings and the planning and commissioning meetings and start pushing for changes and you will be surprised at what a small and organized group can accomplish...group texting and Facebook can keep you united and informed...go to the meetings and challenge those old ladies...
Just have you ducks in a row and defend your rights logically and intelligently...

Let me echo what Reuben is saying because it is important.
Reuben mentioned to defend your rights logically and intelligently. Very important that your group gets the respect of those you may oppose with a vote. Go to the meeting and get to know the ones personally that are in charge of making the laws. Learn how and why they think and vote the way they do. You don't have to agree with those in charge but mutual respect goes a long ways and you will be surprised that once those passing the rules see a hunting groups as concerned and not just another radical group. They not only listen but start respecting your input.
I have seen this here with my own eyes over the past 3 years and positive things have happened for the hunters in the state because of it. I have seen it on the state level and also the local level with our local county commission.
I have been reading that some of the fears in VA about the Right to Retrieve Law went in favor of the Hunters. Our rights all across this country are in jeopardy and we can make a difference if we control our emotions and stay involved with what laws are coming up next.

I suggest you folks find those old women a boy friend. They have too much time on their hands.
We need to be aware that animal rights groups are targeting certain states with tethering and housing requirement laws. They bring a ready to introduce piece of legislation to a legislator who they know is friendly to their cause and get it introduced. Humane Society of the US is currently pushing bills in the south and mid-Atlantic regions. We need to push back on this with local legislators. the AR groups keep sore and have ratings for how friendly legislators are to their issues.

Here is what I have found over the years. The anti whatever have calculated plans they present and target in different areas of the Country. Some are just a stepping stone what they want to accomplish years down the line.
The other side of the coin is the Dog Owners, Hunters, Outdoors People that just go along with their lives then have to defend issues to keep rights important to them.
In other words. One group is actively plotting against our Liberties and we don't band together until we have been attacked. Then it is usually too late.
We have to be more proactive. Identify the enemy and we need to attack. When they are defending, they are spending money defending and don't have time to plot against our Heritage and our God Given rights.
FL. has a lot of issues with Conservation. I actually took a sigh of relief when this years Game Commission proposals started to form and be made public. There really weren't those many battles to fight for the Hunters. Fisherman are another story and work needs to be done in that area. But it is not only the Game Commission. It is local and state laws that are creeping in and taking away our freedoms. Before we really realize is.
God Bless and stay informed and work with a group in your area to hear about the rules coming out against us and when the flames are still small so we can put them out.
