Rule changes

UKC has posted a video breaking down the new rule changes in the competition hunts. Allen breaks the rule changes down in pretty good detail. Just thought some would enjoy it.

In the video, when talking about treeing a dog on a closed tree in ukc, what does he say? Tree the dog, or don't?

Closed tree

Okay on a tree.
After dog is treed in you have 2 min to tree before 2 ND and 3 Rd positions are no longer available.
Between 2 min and 3 if you tree on that tree you go in for 25 points.
After 3 min judge will accept your tree call, as a split tree and it will be treated as such.

So if the 3 minutes are up and you tree you go in for 125. Than if your dog is on closed tree you are minused 125 plus he is considered to be on a closed tree and takes he's pill for that as well. Most people well not tree in if they know there dog is on a closed tree. If your dog comes in late but before the judge and slick or off game is you will receive 25 minus or scratched for off game in ch cast.
Hope this helps all of these rules are on the card or in the book. Under 4 g-i

The one thing I would want to clarify is; when it comes to dogs treeing but not declared treed when judge arrives. The only time you assign next available tree points is in the case where the tree is scored as slick or has off game. In other words, it's not an automatic thing to assign 25 tree points to those dogs. Only if it's slick or has off game in the tree, then assign 25 tree points and minus that dog that is treeing but not declared treed.

If there is a coon in the tree, the dogs treeing but not declared treed, receives minus strike points only.

Lastly, nothing has changed here other than "next available" now becomes 25 tree points for ALL dogs treeing but not declared treed on a tree that is slick or has off game in it.

A handler should not declare his dog treed after the tree is closed, if he thinks the dog is on the closed tree because that dog would go on the card as being split treed. And if the dog is not split when (is on closed tree) the dog has a bunch of minus coming.

The point I tried to make in the video about dogs treeing, on a tree with another dog that is declared treed and the three minutes has not yet expired, but the handler is not declaring the treeing the dog treed is...... you have nothing to gain and everything to lose by not declaring that dog treed. Is this what you are referring to?

Even before the countdown and when it was 5 minutes I never would tree my dog on a closed tree. And if I think they are split I wait till I get close enough to be sure.
