Rules question

In a cast with 4 dogs and using a hunting judge assigned by the club. At some point during the hunt the judge withdraws and leaves the cast. Does the cast have to go back to the club at that time and have someone appointed as the judge or can the cast decides who is going to take over as the judge.

The cast decides who will take over as the hunting judge.

Judges are urged to stay with the cast and continue judging even if they withdraw but if they do leave they can appoint another qualified member of the cast. Any cast members that withdraw are urged to stay with the cast and retain their voting privileges. The only time you come back to the club during the hunt is if you were to be down to one person left if all other cast members leave so you can get a non-hunting judge or for a scratchable question on the card.

Rules Question

Here is why I’m asking. This happen to me this pass weekend and the scorecard was just handed to another member. The rules state that the club assigns the judges and no where in the rules does it state it can be passed on to another member. What I was told and the advisor said it was a no no to pass it on to a member in the cast. If this is wrong can somebody show me different. Thanks

9e) Even though their dog is withdrawn or scratched,
they shall continue to judge the cast. If the judge
is unable to complete their duties for the duration
of the hunt due to other unforeseen circumstances,
only then may they assign another qualified handler
in the cast to finish judging the cast.

Just to clarify......

the Advisor Article you referred to has to do with the assigned judge passing the scorecard to another cast member before the start of the hunt. That's the no-no. If the judge cannot fulfill those assigned duties, for whatever reason, they may not just pass it to another cast member. Instead they shall have the event official assign a different cast member to judge the cast.

If the judge withdraws during the hunt and must leave the cast, they (the assigned judge) may in fact pass the scorecard to a qualified cast member to judge the remainder of the hunt. This per Rule 9 (e). I don't like this rule but it is a rule and in place "if" the assigned judge has withdrawn and cannot finish judging the cast.

That's the difference between the two completely different situations.

Thanks for clarifying that Mr Gingerich. It is very helpful when we get a timely clarification on a rules question. But it takes all of the fun out of reading the responses.
