Let's vote, argue, minus and scratch

This is how I see the rules.
There is to many rules, to much interpretation of the rules.
Next year will some one please propose to just simplify them down to tree the most coon in the shortest time allowed.
You've got to know or you let yourself open for anything. This Years rules to come has asked for more votes (which are just asking for issues) asking for misusing more. (Just more trouble) more confusion more complicated interpretations.
Did we need to make more pleasure hunters feel left out? Did we need to have more hunters leave the competition hunt mad about getting minused. Not winning is different than feel done wrong.

I’ve judged several casts voting is the best way to not have issues. Don’t vote your scratched vote what you believe and move on. It’s as simple as that.

I don't see it that way but maybe I'm wrong. I have always felt like if ya need to vote your half way to bigger problems.
The cast that ya don't have to vote on usually went smoothly and there was no need to vote.

Voting keeps someone from complaining later. It’s pretty simple to tell if ones babbling. Not much to argue over.

What we need to do is quit whining about being cheated before we are ever in the cast.

I do agree with your first statement. So much for the rest

really it's about enjoying the hunts or not. It's about weather a new hunter can join in on the fun. It's about keeping coon hunters united not divided into pleasure hunters or competition hunters.
Just seems like we may be better off taking a little more time to look at where we are heading.

A good judge will make the call if you don't like it then there's a vote.

I really don't like the new rules possums should be worth five plus points, Grey Fox 15 and Bobcat at least 25. And Marcells monkey will solve the rest. Jerry Clower rules for redneck coon hunters.

this has gotten totally ridiculous everyone is speculating what is going to happen , why is it some people never get beat by a better dog they just always got cheated or screwed

Posted by pamjohnson on 09-10-2019 01:49 AM:

None of this has anything to do with what I was getting to. I guess maybe I gave everyone the wrong impression Idk.
It not about cheating, winning, loosening babbling etc

The long run. Future of coon hunting and coonhunts. Today we may be heading down to right path or so we think but not for the long haul kinda thing.

I’ll agree with Pam. Too many darn rules. Too many band aid solutions.

I wish that the rules were so simple that any guy or gal with a registered hound could participate. The guys that run the club I’m in do a good job with novice hunters that show up. I’ve brought a few big game guys to hunts and they always leave saying how complicated it is and never return.

I’d like to see the older generation included more too. I enjoy talking to the “elders” when traveling to different clubs. These people have a wealth of knowledge to share and we can benefit from going to the woods more with them.

I wish it was that simple Pam, a lot of things happen in the dark that need covered somehow. Rules are there to find out who has the best in that 2 hours by not only awarding the dog that treed the most coons but punishing the dog that had the most faults. Some nights that's the same dog.

We all want the dog that trees the most coon but for me a coondog is judged by all the things that happened between releasing them and the tree. Treeing the most coons but having major holes in their game between strike and tree doesn't make the best dog.

I have always disliked the scratch mentality. Scratching a dog is just a means of eliminating competition.

Answer me this, why is it the guys with the super dogs who are quickest to eliminate their competition? If their dog is so good, what does keeping the pot-licker around hurt?

Here is the other side of the coin. How many times have you seen a scratching rule being abused?

I don't know what direction coon hound competition will go, but one thing I do know creating more scratch offenses will benefit only a few. Another consequence will be reducing young people from entering the sport. Who wants to suffer getting scratched over and over while you learn?

The only thing I hate is drawing two buddy's in a 3 dog cast. And they go blind on your tree. Been there and it sucks. I just tell them ill remember it and return the favor

Posted by Grant Noeske on 09-11-2019 01:28 AM:

Here are a few things that got simplified.

1. You won't get scratched because a judge "thinks" your dog is running off game.
2. You won't get scratched because a judge "thinks" your dog is in there fighting.
3. You won't get scratched because you accidentally squalled during shine time.
4. You won't get scratched because your judge "forgot" to put a "+" sign next to your final score.
5. You won't get scratched if your dog can tree a truckload of coon, but won't open on track.

I'm not arguing for or against any of them, but they will eliminate a lot of arguments I've seen over the years.
