Dog covering to much

I've got a 1.5 year old not as independent as I would like. The last 3 months ive hunted him solo. Took him out tonight with my other hound. And he covered on both drops. Any advice to breaker him of this.

Somtimes it’s just a case of him having no choice but to cover he is just getting out dogged.

I hope you give your young dog some time to figure things out.
I posted on here about almost same problem. I hunted my young dog
Strictly by hisself , and I liked what he was doing. I put him in the hunts and He spent most of his time covering the other dogs. Some of the guys on here told me instead of strictly pleasure hunting alone, to try hunting with other dogs 2 nights and then alone 2 nights. It worked for me. Good luck and don't give up just yet.

One of the biggest myths in coon hunting is that Hunting a young dog alone for long periods of time will make them independent.

If a dog is covering all the time it's because the other dog(s) are quicker to strike and tree. I'm assuming your other dog is probably older and better than your 1.5 year old.

I would try hunting him with something that is not as good as him, and see what the results are.
