Breeding qualities other than hunt characteristics

How many of you that breed dogs put into consideration traits a dog has outside of their performance in the woods? Do you put any weight on how a dog is to keep? personality, behavior at home and general likeability?

Does it weigh high on your list, or can you live with anything that will do that job in the woods like you want? Just curious.

Probably going to take some crap for this but that's OK. I will take an average hound that is a consistent performer and is a pleasure to own when it's in the kennel as well as in the woods over a top performer that is a PIA to have at home when it's not being hunted.

My hounds spend more time at home in the kennel or yard then they do in the woods. So does everyone else's!

I look at lots of things outside of hunting prowess myself. General personality, brain, attitude, etc.

Sometimes these get overlooked too often, in lieu of other "more important" or "traditional" characteristics breeders look for or want to breed.

Balance, in EVERY department, should be the ultimate goal.

How many people actually handle or interact with there dogs enough for it to really make difference. Beside how dog is at house and how it handles. Most of things mention prob dont affect people much. I know myself I load my dogs hunt them put them up. Long as they stay quite around house and dont spill their water I'm not really concerned with much else. Dont want timid dog. I mean each there own just saying with the things mention dont have much affect on what I hunt.

absolutely want breed a retarded dog. want keep want hunt it. smart dog things just seem to fall in place when hunted. or around the kennel.

I like a great hunting dog that is a pleasure to hunt...I also want to like the dog quite a bit...for me to like the dog I want him built right and the right size with good personality...not hyper...and not a pain in the rear...

When the dog hunts right...acts right and looks right it is truly exciting to hunt such a dog...makes me want to go hunting...
