Bench Show Question

Now that I am too old to hunt in the nite hunts, I am considering getting back into bench showing. I have always wondered, why should a dog have "cat" feet? Bench Show people have been breeding for "cat" feet for a long time now. But why? They are dogs. Shouldn't they have dog feet?

Your red dogs look good to me. But what you don’t want is that whipet look like they are malnourished or came from Ethiopia and big ole paddle feet. I like to show a dog.

They breed for it because it calsls for it in the breed standard. All except black and tan. English doesn't specifically call for cat feet but describes it as tight.
