Pleasure dogs?

If you were in the market for a coonhound that came from several generations of coonhounds that were honest pleasure dogs where would you look?

My idea of a pleasure dog is:

Medium to cold nose
Prefers coon over trash; Check dog broke
Hunts the country around you not in the next county
Fully open on track according to track condition
Checks in every 20-30 mins. if no coon
Good natured at the tree and will back away from a tree fighter
Good kennel manners at home


Do these dogs exist anymore? Does anyone breed for such hounds anymore?
Breed wouldn't reall matter much to me as long as they look and sound like a hound and not the neighborhood mutt!

They still exist. Some of Us even enjoy haul'n em to the woods.

I have a pair of leopards that meet everything but fully open on track

I expect this will shock many but the best pure pleasure dogs I have followed were all females off Bellars Psycho. Enough of them to be solid in my opinion.

One of the nice things about the equipment we have today is that you can take a wider hunting dog and make him a pleasure to hunt by breaking him to the tone. When he's gone as far as you want tone him back. My experience is that usually the dog will begin to adapt and hunt the way you want.
