Stationary Rule
So this one may have been brought up before and maybe not. Last night we were sitting around a $kc hunt talking about rules and situations and two big ones got brought up in UKC. If they are in the "advisor" I'm going to throat punch someone.
1. Stationary Rule: My dog is stationary and I think he's in a hole. I don't tree my dog and we walk in there and determine my dog IS in a hole. The Rule reads when you walk in you have to determine the dog is on a TREE. Am I scratched or not?
2. Option to Cut to a treed dog: 4 dog cast, I've (dog A)somehow treed two coons on the rest of the dogs, there's a dog treed (Dog B) therefor I have the option to cut or walk to dog to them, I keep mine on the lead. We score Dog B and Dog C is treed in through the country prior to arriving at Dog C's tree. Once again I keep mine on the lead. Say this situation continues the rest of the cast with dogs getting split treed (Not going to happen in this registry). Who says I cant keep mine on the lead for the rest of the hunt as long as we are constantly walking to a treed dog?

Your strike points are circled. You are NOT scratched.
Yes. As long as 1 dog is treed, you have the option to turn loose or not. I would do the same. As you would be wasting time if your dog would go to back it. You get no points after 5 minutes, but must strike it after 3rd bark.

UKC does not have a stationary rule. That is PKC's rule. UKC has an "obviously treed" rule. Your dog has to be "obviously treed" (judge's decision). If the judge thinks that your dog is obviously treed, then he can start the time on him. At the end of the time if you have not treed your dog, then you go to him and if he is "treed" you are scratched. If you think that your dog is in a hole, then you can just go to him and you don't even have to tree him.
Under PKC's stationary rule your dog only has to be "stationary" and the judge can start the time. If the time runs out and you haven't treed him, then you are scratched. The cast doesn't even have to go to him to see what he is doing.
Re-Cutting when dog (s) are treed
I would like to offer one piece of clarification as to what is being stated on this recast situation.
I'm pretty sure you only have the "option" to keep your dog on the leash, so long as at least one other dog is out competing for a strike. If all dogs that were once treed, have been scored, and that last dog finally gets declared treed, you no longer have that option.
But I guess it is possible, "but not probable" that you could conseivably make it all the way through a cast after the first tree, so long as someone else keeps choosing to cut loose, and never are the two dogs loose ever treed at the same time.
Pretty odd chance of that happening, but I guess it is possible

on trail to compete for next available strike
points. However, if dog(s) are already treed,
handlers have the option to hold onto or
release dog(s) so long as at least one dog is
not declared treed.
It doesn't say he gets to stay on the leash until the original dogs that were treed are scored. However UKC gets to make the interpretations and because they haven't done this one yet that I know of then who knows what they will do.
My opinion is he gets too but shouldn't be able too. It;s a loop hole that allows him to not compete and stay on the leash as long as he has his lead.
Loophole or whatever u want to call it. In the right circumstances it’s good handling to stay on the leash. It could also be beneficial to cut loose. Knowing when to go wide open and knowing when to cool down is the difference in good handling and bad handling. I know some will say something about using the rules in your favor. But this is a game and it’s a 2 part game part handling and part dog power.
Tarbaby, they are only burning up their own clock. What does it matter to you if another man's dog goes back to the same tree? This rule is used in the other KC just to scratch a dog that has treed a coon and is winning the cast.
Do I really got to explain that to you brouther ? At the end of the hunt if he is ahead it might be better for his dog to go back to waste time or your dog might be on a slick or slick tail lol.
Tarbaby
What is there to explain? You should be hoping that your dog trees a coon to beat him and not be looking for a way to scratch him because his dog has already treed one. You are making it sound like you are part of the "use the rules to scratch the dog that has treed the most coons so I can win mentality" of handlers. I hope that I am mistaken and you aren't.
I didn't say I would do it lol ! But anything you can do to keep your dog away from their dog and eat up clock time now is the game they play. I understand the game it don't mean I play it that way.
