Cheapr or Generic Thyroid meds???

With now two of my Walkers having thyroid problems, according to my vet, is there any cheap or generic versions of Thyroxine or other meds available? My vet charges me 90c a pill, X 4 pills daily = $3.60 a day.

It wasn't that long ago when thyroid problems with dogs was almost unheard of. I don't know if it's the latest vet scam or scare, but regardless, very expensive to treat, not to mention the blood tests that run hundreds of $$$.

Read the info on the link I attached and that will answer part of your question. The short version is thyrotabs is about the only medicine readily available now days. The prices you mentioned is higher than I pay through my vet so it may pay to shop around. Online prices are better but from experience vets don’t like to deal with the online pharmacies because they charge them. Supposedly vets are required to give you Rx if you ask for one instead of forcing you to buy pills from them but I didn’t want to push that with my vet and possibly damaged our relationship. If your vet will give you an Rx you can get a different manufacturer than thyrotabs by having it filled at Walmart but the human pills are much smaller in mg and you will be giving a hand full at a time. When I checked out the Walmart option it was going to cost me about $50 per month.

Vets (most) are going to charge you WAY more for meds than you can buy them anywhere else! 0.8's cost me $0.14 ea from Valley Vet Supply.
