George E. Yazel Obituary

I met George many years ago while he was serving as President of the Treeing Walker Breeders & Fanciers Association (1985-1989). He and his wife Sarah were very dedicated to the breed and to the sport. I will always remember his trademark line at draw out time, "Go directly to your pie plate. Don't go get your dog, don't go get your truck"!

April 28, 1944 - March 12, 2019

George E. Yazel, 74, a lifelong Rushville resident, passed away March 12, 2019 in Indianapolis.

George was born April 28, 1944 in Rushville to Edmond “Jake”, Jr.& Laura Jean (Christopher) Yazel. He was a 1962 graduate of Rushville High School. George married Sarah J. Dishinger on April 28, 1963 and she survives.

George retired in 2005 after 42 years from Allison Transmissions in Indianapolis where he was a Sr. process Engineer. He attended Hannegan Christian Church. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and was an avid hunter, trapper, and fisherman. George will be long remembered for his quick wit and his spirited nature!

In addition to his wife, Sarah, of Rushville, he is survived by his sons, Greg (Leslie) Yazel of Greensburg, Mark (Angie) Yazel of Huntington and Chad (Jodi) Yazel of Connersville, his brothers, John N. (Sue) Yazel of Ocala, FL., Ronald A. Yazel of Rushville, Dennis D. Yazel of Summerville, GA., Christopher J. (Teresa) Yazel of Attica and Bruce W. Yazel of Rushville, his sisters, Evelyn Cross of Indianapolis, Jenny Chance of TN., and Shelby Williams of Southport and his grandchildren, Austin, Claire and Jaclyn Yazel.

Services will be held at 1 PM Monday, March 18, 2019 in Moster Mortuary, Rushville with Pastors Warren Engel & Chris Yazel presiding. Friends are welcome to visit the mortuary from 2-8 PM on Sunday, March 17. Burial will be in Rushville’s East Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.

Thanks for posting Jerry. I'm sorry to hear this. George and Sarah did a lot for TWBFA. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
