Riddle me this ????

I have always and will always prefer a dog that is alone ...so for all you guys that like a dog that packs up, what is an ACCEPTABLE amount of time for a dog to cover another dog? I’m thinking 5-10 seconds if they are running the same track, 30 seconds max if they are off doing nothing . Anything over 30 seconds is almost unacceptable in my opinion .

It doesn’t take a pack up me tooer very long to cover. The ones that take longer are usually the ones that rather find a track going on but can’t.

Posted by River Birch Run on 03-10-2019 01:58 PM:

The ones covering right away are the pack dogs which is unacceptable. The ones covering several min later are trying to work there own track. Cover dogs should be culled from the gene pool.

Y'all blowing it all up out of perportion!! Y'all got one of these back in the day track driving accurate fast treeing total package athletes a mee too dog can't hang with them. If you are getting beat by a mee too dog it's because ole blue ain't fast enough to win the race ahead of ole mee too !!

I agree. If 2 or more dogs are working the same track , why does the one or ones that tree first become a me too dogs?

It makes no difference to me , but Covering 4 1/2 minutes late is a pretty undesirable trait in my mind.

in last 7 hunts I can remember my dog under one tree with another.. been split from 25 yrds to 500 yrds rest of time.. will he tree with others absolutely if they come in.. and he will park about 3 ft from tree and stay put. he gets alone a lot and never out hearing no need when coon are near by..

Have you ever heard the saying one goes into battle with what you got on the horse that got you there , not what one wishes they had or rode. Just be happy enjoy the hunt or the battle. S/FI! Just look at the Mongols and their scrub horses and what they accomplished against so called civilized Armies riding Thouroughbreds and Arabians. S/FI!

True, very true.

I do think this huge push for a dog to always be alone has hurt our tracking ability. Love to see a dog that can flat move a track tree so far ahead of the other dogs that they get shut out completely on the tree but are on the same track.

There never was many of those dogs but now it is even harder to judge track speed.

Nope Ol Blue can get 75 here and 75 there enough times... in a cast of coon treers Ol Blue can easily win with no first of his own, not hard when he's got 5 to find the one treed.

If your the only coon treer in the cast yes you win, throw another good dog or 2 in the mix that Ol' Blue can also suck that 75 on and your dream dog can easily be beat. Blue won't ever have to have a first strike or first tree to do it.

I’m not a competition hunter but if me too dogs won a bunch of hunts wouldn’t people be breeding those type of dogs more? I know people are breeding and training babblers, and go past half a dozen coon to be deep and lonely. Not saying a me too dog can’t win big but I would think if that style dog won a lot there would be more demand for it.

99% of dogs are born pack dogs . Trainers make them loners . It's whatever you do when training . Natural solo dogs are difficult to train as they're never with the old dog to learn . I like mine to finish his track that he struck regardless of what others are doing and if he doesn't have anything going I expect him the work with the others

An honest and/or intelligent dog man knows when their dog COVERS. It's understandable to get beat every now and then to a tree. But if a dog is working a track, quits and heads right towards a dog just because it falls treed isn't going to last here long. Or if you pull a dog off a tree and another dog is treed and it heads right towards that dog, probably won't last here long. IMO that is a big eared me to dog, and their useless to me. A babbling me too'er can win some hunts. 175 all night can be hard to beat, but I'd rather quit then win like that.

If I get a peice of your coon and get one of my own by myself I win a lot of hunts that way. I myself worry more about having a dog that gets the high end of the points than I do ole blue being social !

Instead of trying to convince everyone on here that this type, or that of dog is what is good for you and bad for me, or even the sport, just say you want a countdown. That's what all these threads are eluding to. With the countdown put into place, we move an inch or two closer to being what some on here want, the second PKC. If you want their rules so bad, and they are so good for you, there is nothing wrong with you switching sides. This rules package has stood the test of time, as has theirs. It sure would be bad if we had only one choice to hunt by. It would be like going to buy milk, and finding out they only have one flavor now. Think hard about what you want. There can be a day coming, and I might add it usually is, that we may not like what we have. Oh wait, that day may just be here now for some of us!

Seems these type threads are born again every three years around rule change time. Most times they are put up by different folks, or at least endorsed by different folks. Could it be that age old selfish case of I want the rules fixed to meet my dogs way of hunting? That's the real question here huh?

Rock it ain't about you and me no more. Did a hunt this weekend had 5 dogs on the bench 5 registered dogs in the hunt 0 ntchs all If anybody would have brought a ntch they would have got a win. I got one but I don't want it that way. Spent $100 on food had a coffee can for donations not a dime was in that can and everybody ate. These young folks want money they are used to having a winner no matter what !! they are the ones in the future that are going to pay the bills ! So as a buisness they got to get like ole tar and get :

That's the kind that needs to be culled from the gene pool. There's no place for that kind.
