.,..

What's your intake on them

The 2, I had were smarter, and treed more coons in less time than the open trailers.

The one had was the the most accurate hound I’ve ever owened . Coons never heard him coming by then it was to late. Caught a lot on the ground n didn’t take long to do it. He wasn’t silent when I bought him at 2. He was a very intelligent hound. Older he got the smarter n more silent he got. I don’t particularly like a silent hound I like to listen to them run track but I’d take another of old Willy any day.

How much fun/pleasure is it to hunt a silent dog? I had one once. You turned him loose, sat in the truck and watched him on the Garmin and then went to him when he treed. So I sold him.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

No different than anything else. Some folks enjoy them, some folks don’t. Enjoy them if you like them, hunt an open dog if you don’t. There are outstanding, common, and below average dogs out there of both types. Both types tree game and provide enjoyment for the folks throwing the feed to them.

Why can't everyone be the same and like the same kind of dog? What if every guy liked the same kind/type of girl?

I think where some are mistaken about a silent track dog is thinking they all are the same. Some of them only tree hot coon, some will tree a colder track, some are good at finding and treeing coon and some don't tree very many. I think there is just as much variation in them as in open dogs. But hey I may be wrong.

No Tom you are right , a good dog is a good dog silent or open on track has long as the game is there it really does not matter. JMHO

How about TUESDAY or Wednesday night going hunting? I think it is my turn to go to Arkansas , Didn't we hunt Spavinaw last time together and treed in that den tree? So much going on kind of lost track buddy.

Some nice opinions

Posted by shadinc on 03-11-2019 07:37 PM:

I have a blue tick female here that trees coons. I stopped hunting her 15 months ago because she was totally silent and I don't enjoy hunting a silent dog. Two weeks ago I decided to give her some exercise. She struck a track, trailed about 300 yards and ran it another 200 yards and treed the coon barking all the way. I've had her 3 times since and she's full open on track. It's like I have a new dog.

I like my dogs to pack up...so 3 quick and loud chops on locating a good track and this alerts the rest of the pack...

I had one once and she was probably the most accurate and most action packed dog I ever had she was actually one of my favorite dogs I've ever had she would maybe throw one or two barks on track but it was rare if she did she got to mean to keep around so I sent her down the road if it wasn't for that she would have never left my house

Silent

I have owned several silent dog's . Just pull up treed what a lot call a layup I guess . Most I've owned would tree a coon and do it naturally . But most were also very gritty . On coon though I like a semi open dog . I have also noticed you take a silent dog and put it on bigger game they seem to change up they get more open on track . I got a silent dog here now . Coon dog pull up treed straight 3 chop locate to heavy chop treed . But he likes a hog and he'll strike and chop every breath and picks up speed every step of the way . He's big and gritty and will catch a hog by his self . So I know if he's chopping just go ahead and light him up and move to another spot .

I had one that was completely silent on coon but wide open on "trash". I sold him to a bear hunter for quite a bit of money. He loved him.

Mr. Lambert

I have seen more silent Redbones than ALL the other hound breeds combined, why do you think that happens in the redbone breed? Just curious and would like your opinion. Dave

Back in the late '70's early 80's I hunted occasionally with a redbone man who had 2 males that were dead silent. One was a grade dog that he single registered and made a Nt. Ch. which most of us in those days condemned.

The other was a really nice looking male out of Millers Valley Rocket he got as a pup. Finished him to Gr. Show Ch. He had a big booming chop on tree and was a good tree dog. Dead silent on coon but would occasionally trash. We knew when he did cause that was the only time the dog would run open! From what I see on here he might of finished both those dogs into Gr. Nt. Ch.
today.

Back in those days most of us liked to here a dog run a track for awhile before they treed! Guess we're antiques these days! LOL! Had no use for a silent dog then nor would I now.

I've never really cared for a stone silent dog.

Most of the best dogs I've had (even if they were wide open when young) would tighten up with age and experience.
