Thyroid ?

Don't know the dogs problem sometimes when you get him outta the box acts like he's scared to death will run and jump back in the box when unsnapped. I bought the dog about a month ago he acted a little nervous sometimes but buddied up with him and acts fine in the dog lot but would go hunting the guy I bought him from said he had got on him pretty hard for hanging around houses.last 2 nights he's went hunting no problem then tonight ran and got back in the box like he was scared to death. Any ideas on what the problem maybe or what to do to solve it, couldn't ask for a nicer dog when he acts fine but when he acts scared your wasting your time.

What you're seeing isn't thyroid related in my opinion. He's had his trust broken by a man. Might take awhile before he gets it back completely. Here's my question, when he's acting scared can you see a house light? There's something that's triggering him to act scared. So until you find out what it is I'd keep trying to get him to leave.

Dog

Turned loose both ways across from a house and place where there wasn't house lights or anything else didn't make any difference.

Yotes? I have a female that was run off a tree by them. Hard going, till she smells them strong. Not if she hears them, but if they are close. And it is their breeding season. They are very territorial.

He does act better with another dog once he gets out there he will split off from them sometimes and go and do his own thing

I have a female just like that. Sometime she won't leave the truck. Next drop she'll go as far as needed. I blame it on coyotes.

Dog

I don't think junk is the problem it's night to night not one spot to another. When he acts like that I can take him to several different places with the same reaction.

Had one similar to that myself that i treed alot of coon with an won a couple casts. His mother was moody some of his littermates were moody. He took it to a new level so i banded him an gave him to a friend that didnt mind.

I had one that went from a big, big hunting dog, to a dog that wouldn't get out from my light. He would try and tree something close, preferably a opossum. If there were houses close by, he would be over by them milling around. I took him and had his thyroid checked , and it was at .2, which is almost non existent. Got it straightened out, and he went back to his old self, in about 3 weeks.

Dog

You've described my dog to a T making appointment with vet tomorrow! Thanks

Not saying your problem is thyroid or not because there are can be several variables. But in my experience had one that was grntch and won several thousand $ in other hunts. Out of the blue went from a hunting dog to hiding under the truck when she couldn't get back in the truck. Knowing that I hadn't done anything or had any problems that would have made this major problem. I hauled her to vet had complete blood panel done and thyroid levels were extremely off. After month too month and half of treating and rechecking once numbers got back in check she was back to normal and as hard going as ever. Once again allot of problems are blamed in thyroid, I can't tell you all that are realated or not but in my case I am glad I got the check and the medicine needed. Made all the difference in the world.

If your dog is sick or had a tick disease it's thyroid will be low. Had a fellow hunter his dog was a 1 dog wasn't acting right. I told him to feed him beef liver and canned mackerel he gave him k9 red cell for good measure every day the young dog just won $4000 last weekend. When sick you need nourishment and moderate exercise to get well dogs are no different. Normal ranges are 1 to 4 if on the low side try the recipe above you will notice a difference.

Double L, I have been exactly where you are with two different dogs. One was because the guy I got her from should of had the hell beat out of him for how he whooped the dog. If when you got her out she got a bad vibe about anything she would run and hide under the truck. Next drop she would go fine. Her problem was man made.

The second one I raised, hard hard going little female. I mean nice, Gnch and a PKC ch with ease. She turned 4 and one night I cut her and she went 600 yards and just stopped. I had to go get her and she was hiding in the bushes scared to death. The next night she hunted fine. A week later I cut her and she went strait to the truck and was under it shaking. I couldn't get it figured out. She refused to go but you could put her in the truck, make the block and cut her in the same spot and she would go. I took her to the vet and her thyroid was a .06 I started her on her meds and she was fine. If I ever take her off of her meds she goes back to doing it. You could have either problem or both.

Dog

No tick disease,no heartworm and thyroid was 1.5 vet said that was normal level. I thought anything under 2.0 was low? Gonna call another vet and see what they say is normal range.

Sounds like your dog is fine health wise but he is just blown up by the previous owner. May just take awhile to make up with you.
Believe it or not everything thing is not thyriod related sometimes dogs just act like idiots. It is an excuse to many want to use.

Oh my, goodness, I went to a Dr last week and he had some blood work done. I went back today and he said my thyroid level was low so he put me on thyroid pills.
