If You Can't Feed 'em, Don't Breed 'em!

I don't know how many litters of hound puppies are being found all around GA and SC right now. (I am quite sure this is not the only place either!)

I help with a Lost and Found group in order to help hunters find their lost, stolen hounds.
This month alone that is all I see. Bred females being thrown out to fend for themselves or pups no where near old enough to be weaned, dumped off to die.

If you think this is OK, you really need to find another sport!

Just because your bitch comes in heat, does NOT mean you have to breed her!

You know most of us only raise one litter every 1-3 years and keep one or 2 pups out of each litter for ourselves and maybe a few close buddies but other than that I for one HAVE BEEN through with placing pups in the hands of folks who will not take care of them. Raise pups for your replacements only. My females are on one side of the barns and the males are on the other. unless they can eat through metal they will never be accidental breedings. JMHO

That's so sad. I'm seeing more posts from rescues in PA trying to place hounds, too.

Fellows I have lived in SC all my life and there are just as many Coon hunters that throw out dogs as there are deer hunters. What is really going on is people are buying puppies and when they get tired of them barking so they just throw them out instead of trying to give them away to a good home.

If you can't feed them,don't breed them.....

Same for People!!


Heard of idiots that as soon as coon season is over or if the hound is cull,they just turn it loose to fend for itself.
Funny none are ever found with a Garmin collar or any name tag collar on them either.
