Accuracy????

JUST WANTING EVERYONES OPINION ON WHAT MAKES A HOUND ACCURATE? AND LETS FACE IT WHETHER YOUR A COMPETITION HUNTER OR A GUY LIKE MYSELF THAT PLEASURE HUNTS ON THE WEEKENDS WITH HIS KIDS AND BUDDIES, ACCURACY IS WHAT WE ARE REALLY AFTER RIGHT ?? I HAVE BEEN BACK INTO HUNTING FOR ABOUT 3-4 YEARS, AFTER BEING OUT OF IT FOR ALMOST 20, AND FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN THE HOUNDS TODAY HAVE TAKEN A BIG STEP BACK IN THE ACCURACY DEPARTMENT,

ARE THEY FASTER?? YES, ARE THEY MORE GRITTY GET GONE ?? YES, ARE THEY BETTER TREE DOGS ?? WITHOUT A DOUBT..... BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY WHEN YOUR WALKING TO A TREE WITH EITHER A GUN OR SCORECARD IN YOUR HAND, ISNT HAVING THE FUR IN THE TREE THE MOST IMPORTANT THING ?

REGARDLESS OF COLOR , BREED , OR PREJUDICE, WHAT IS PRODUCING THE BEST TRACK, TO TREE, TO HAVING THE FUR... KIND OF DOGS????..... I KNOW THIS IS A REALLY OPEN ENDED QUESTION.... BUT 20 YEARS AGO WE MAY HAVE TAKEN A FEW MINUTES TO GET TREED, BUT IT WAS VERY SELDOM, THAT FUR WASNT IN THE TREE WHEN WE GOT THERE.

I hunt skuana river bark dogs they are the best track dogs I have hunted myself they have a big percentage of coons in their trees.

I hunt coma bred dogs and they satisfy me. I won’t follow s dog to many empty trees

I think wipeout dogs are the best track driving dogs that are gonna get you looking at a coon

Something off Bone will make you think your local coon population has exploded. Those dogs produce more coon than lots of other strains combined. Best thing about them is that they'll tree the coon in front of you, beside you, or across the road behind the truck. And if something misses a Bone dog will be 60 yards away with the grease.
I'm not a cheerleader, or a paid promoter. But I've seen lots of dogs out of this stock that have an exceptional knack for producing coons when other dogs can't.

20 years ago there was not as many coons and a lot more timber

20 years ago, most were coonhunters that took up competition hunting. They expected to see a coon 80 percent of the time or more. Those 50 - 60 % accurate dogs died at a young age..

Read what Cory Highfill wrote. Over the years a person sees changes in our hounds. Most people don't want to see something better or different than what they have and they sure don't give credit for it.
I have tried to put a reason to what Cory states he has seen. Because I have see it also. It is just in my opinion that's it a different ability and style to running the track. They don't follow the coon to a tree and locate him and then tree. They push him and make him climb and are locating as they come to the tree and don't miss a beat. I have seen one that comes to the tree looking for the coon and almost makes you think he sees him up there. Thing is, sure enough you look and he is there.

I think wipeout dogs have an outstanding tracking ability. Bone dogs have the ability to put locating with the tracking ability.

There is a lot that factors in to accuracy but in the end it boils down to just how important it is to the man with the lead.

thanks guys for the replies and opinions, to me accuracy is everything, its the original intent for why coon hunting or any kind of dog hunting originated, many years ago hunters hunted for meat or hides, for survival or income, if they had dogs treeing trees, and not coons, they wouldn't survive ( and the dogs probably wouldn't have either !!!) lol, Mr Conkey I think you explained it best, from what I have seen dogs today they have a tree in mind first , instead of a track to a tree, I know this is what wins in hunts, but years ago probably wouldn't have put a lot of hides on the smokehouse door...here in southern Oklahoma , coons are not stacked in to a block of woods, terrain can be really rough, and tracks can get pretty long, you better have a track driving hound... im not bashing anyones hounds, I know that what wins in the hunts might not suit a hide hunter, I guess im seeing things that lack in my dogs, that I would like to improve on them....I come from a roping horse, and rope horse training background, and I have had high bred horses that have all the bloodlines to be great ones, and weren't, I have had grade horses that were common bred ,that turned out to be great... the bottom line is I found what I liked that got me to the pay window...... didn't matter what they looked like or how they were bred, if you could win on them you rode them!!! my dad always says if you can win on a jackass... ride the jackasss !!!! lol
